Blaser aftermarket barrels

For what it's worth...
I got a 243 R8 re-done in 20TAC by GB Barrels. (Starting in late 2013, ending summer 2016 !)
The end result was far too heavy and I PX'd it for a nice little SAKO (in .204).
The barrel was not part of the PX deal, and is still at McAvoys in Standish if of interest...

24” semi weight barrel ordered from Michael Rainback

He does quite a few Blaser custom barrels and I’m confident that He’ll do a good job

Bolt head likely to be a 300 RUM with 3 thou milled out to accommodate the Jeffery case

Good choice 👍. He’s a top gunsmith. He called me this morning to see if my LA bolt head would fit your case but the LA is too big. Hence the 300 RUM bolt. Keep us posted on the barrel!

I went ahead and ordered an after market barrel from James and it is coming on well.
I ordered a 20" semi weight in .308, it was proofed this morning and now just needs to be ceracoated and I want a muzzle brake for it as well.
This will be ideal when fitted with an aimpoint for my future driven boar trips.
At the moment it is in the white so doesn't look as good as it will when completed, but I have every confidence in James, regardless of some of the stories being spread by some of the other more expensive gun smiths.
I can't wait to take it out and use it in anger ;-)

how much did that cost?

Not completed yet, has to be ceracoated and muzzle brake made, but I can guarantee it will not cost as much as has been mentioned on here in an earlier post.

The price for an after market Blaser barrel fitted with a picatinny rail as opposed to the wee slots that require a very expensive Blaser scope mount, is £920 but can vary (but not much) according to the barrel required.

but in your picture you have the slots don't you for the saddle mount?

As this is a spare barrel for my presently owned R8 I have settled for the original slots so that I can swop the scope to whichever barrel whenever I fancy,
The ones James is doing now would be a better option for a full rifle build as the mounts for Blasers are horrendously expensive compared to good quality picatinny mounts.
If you are interested in one, why not contact James direct and tell him exactly what you prefer.
Incidentally, I have just checked a few Blaser outlets and noticed the new price rise of Blaser products has put spare barrels for the R8 well over £1k now.

Just realised what I posted above reference a full build rifle, James does not do full Blaser builds, just the barrels.
That would save anybody a few bob if they had a Blaser and wanted more than one barrel without switching scopes.
The original Blaser could be scoped up with the expensive Blaser mounts and any others with the normal much cheaper, but just as good, mounts.
The difference between Blaser saddle mounts at circa £350 and a god set of other make mounts circa £60 so quite a saving.
