Uk Primer Supplies and Stock

Even if the current Ukraine invasion / war ends soon, and I'd doubt that VERY much, western European governments have been at least partly shaken out of their past complacency on defence / security issues. Germany alone is reported to plan spending an extra billion Euros p.a. on defence, with the support of all parties in the governing coalition, even the Greens. Throw in an inflationary shockwave caused by energy supply shortages which will increase manufacturing and transport costs, and I think it's fair to say 'We ain't seen nuttin yet!" when it comes to primer and powder supplies and prices.

The conclusions to be drawn from this scenario when added to the present situation and recent price rises / shortages are pretty obvious.

Probably be wise for people to calm down a bit, don't hoard and share among friends.

Putting pictures up of how many boxes of primers or tins of powder you have squirreled away, on an open forum, isn't wise either...

Found and ordered 1000 x CCI BR2 and 1000 x CCI BR4 today. £324! BR2 are almost double to cost of standard primers!

If I wasn’t load developing I’d have gone for standard. Once I’ve found a load it will be interesting to compare standard vs BR

Well it's not going to be long before some schmuck shells out 200 for a box.
It's high time our shooting representatives came up with a plan to secure a reliable supply of ammunition/components to the uk since we have absolutely no home production. Ammunition unavailability is as big a threat to shooting sports as any other.
As anyone heard news of shipments dates? If we're taking a year or two then we've a serious problem no matter how much gear we've stashed.
I'm seriously thinking of going old school; blackpowder and hardcast lead.

Bit of a digression but what’s the difference between cci 200’s and br’s??just curious

That's a question that has been asked and mulled over hundreds of times. :) The CCI200 is the 'cooking' version; BR2 is 'match'. The difference (apart from a tiny upper-case letter 'B' stamped into the BR2 cup and the packaging, plus of course price) is what people really want to know. The consensus is that either the BR2 lots are selected off the production line as being 'better', for example more consistent than the norm, and packaged up separately, or they're made by the most experienced / skilled operators and given higher inspection standards. Very few people believe they're made to a different and secret special match recipe or suchlike.

Thanks for that 👍 I have never used cci ( I use fed match primers ) but I was just curious to what the reason was that the br cci are more expensive than the 200

Should I phone BASC?

I might try the 200’s just to see what they are like

Perfectly good and fairly 'mild' primers. Many people don't believe they get anything extra for the BR version, so won't buy them unless that's all that's on offer. You might find them a tad 'milder' than the Federal 210Ms you're using - ie the CCIs will give a few fps lower MVs. I'm a great believer though in not changing the primer once you have a load that works well. This is often really important in small cartridges using Small Rifle primers, less so in mid size, 308 etc, with LR primers. If you are ever offered Fed's LR magnums though, ie the F215 and 215M, now they are really 'hot', and can ruin a mid-size cartridge's performance.

Assuming the photo does not show you are holding more than the explosive regulations allow, might I ask why you think this?
