Are Rossi rifles any good ??

Im after a lightweight single shot rifle for the smaller deer species and roe for north of the borders ,

I have been offered one in 223 and it's been a cabinet queen

If anyone has had one , could you please forward the pros n cons

Cheers

Kjf

I think............... It's a Rossi model R223YBS single shot , hammer action , break barrel

I've been offered it for cheap money , they are about £200 to £300 on guntrader

I'm just after a single shot lightweight stalking rifle , no mod and a small scope will be on it

Keeping it simple

Had a single shot break barrel in 243 I shot a lot of foxes with this rifle but then it started to open it's self sometimes when firering and then made me nervous when I was going to pull the trigger,I only paid£100 for it so not cost effective to get it fixed so I scraped it but good fun when working right.

There’s usually some Baikal break barrels around and they’re well made but the triggers usually need a tune up.

If you win the lottery, treat yourself to a kiplauf. Put a few rounds through one a stalking guest of the boss turned up with. Wonderful weapon but reflected in the price OUCH!

I have a baikal in 223, single shot break barrel. Great lightweight rifle, have a 3-9x32 bushnell scope on low mounts on it.

Had it screw cut but any mod makes it too front heavy because it is so light.

I made a neoprene stock cover with ammo holder to make reloading easy.

Triggers aren't fantastic but I have used worse!! It's a rifle that does a job, the trigger doesn't stop it from being effective!!

Basically a shotgun with a shotgun trigger, but if you like them, that’s all that matters.
I had the trigger on mine smoothed somewhat and it made a big difference for me. I don’t like heavy triggers.
Know what you mean about the stock cover.
Ken.
Ps. Trigger been done on this one too.

I was thinking about getting the trigger done, but it is not a very used rifle. For the amount of times it comes out of the cabinet I didn't think it is worth it.

I understand what you’re saying.
I found that when shooting soft targets, if you know the rifle, the weight of pull isn’t noticed, but, when developing loads and shooting at paper trying to complete a group, heavy triggers are impossible for me, and, I can’t believe how hard it is for me to let off shot at paper, even with a 1 lb trigger, they just seem to never let go. All in the mind.
Ken.
PS. I’d take a Baikal before a Rossi any day. Jmo.

The triggers are quite simple to do.
With a magnifying glass one can see how the sears are acting as hooks.
So in effect the trigger finger is caming back the hammer spring a miniscule amount.
By stoning the sears square they slip apart more readily giving a lighter pull without changing any spring weights.
