Firearms on public transport

I've travelled in the past on both train and bus, on one occasion with a rifle and the other with a shotgun just in their usual slips nobody said anything.
I bought a shotgun in York and travelled back on the train with it in a bin liner no issues.

Not like public transport drivers to use any excuse not to do their jobs 🙄.

Everyone has seen an action movie where the baddie takes a sniper rifle out of a Peli case, so don't do that.

Just use an archery roller bowcase.

They are expensive but work well, protect the contents, lots of compartments, inconspicuous.

I would have thought common sense would have dictated that any firearm wouldn't be carried in such a way as for any member of public to know you are carrying a firearm.
In my case it has been fairly easy as I have a Peli and a modular rifle and didn't give it a thought when travelling on the train and underground in London.
In one instance, when delayed when returning from Lithuania, there was a school trip of musicians and their Leader/Conductor asked what Instrument I played as he thought maybe we could do an impromptu session at the airport while delayed !!
I've also been on Ferries and never given it a thought.
I can't think why anybody would want to challenge me and so far haven't been.

In the old days of pistol shooting, I regularly carried pistols, ammo, belts, mag pouches, spare mags and all manner of accessories in a Samsonite briefcase on the Tube and buses in London going to and from various indoor ranges.

Not once did anyone question what was in there - bloke, suit, briefcase, looking like thousands of other commuters. Anonymity can be quite useful.

the driver would be doing their job refusing any body to travel on public transport who may put the other passengers in danger no matter what as the driver you would be held accountable

Thank you for this post.

Some people on here really do over complicate their lives, use a slip like 375 mag or a hardcase and stop overthinking everything.

People talk about standing up for shooting sports and and hunting, yet they are wetting themselves over taking a shotgun on a bus because it might be frowned upon......

If what youre carrying is permitted by the company and legal then they wont be held accountable.

Companies like Arriva are only liable for injuries caused by their negligence.

2.2. We are liable to you for any type of injury caused by our negligence. You are liable to us and/or other passengers for any injury, damage or loss caused by you or by any items that you bring on board with you, including animals

Norfolk to Perthshire and return as a youth, biggest worry was thawing head 2 rows back.

Bolt on person, so no worries about needing the loo.

In my opinion, telling staff on public transport what is in my luggage is a breach of security and would put me in breach of the conditions on my FAC. Those conditions trump whatever restrictions some lefty bottom inspector at a public transport company cooks up.
I think it would be crazy to tell public transport staff that you had a gun. They're not properly security vetted, nor trained or licensed to deal with them.

Your going about your lawful business and you hold a cert to state your fit to do so ? tell them nothing ! just don't have a case shaped like a rifle or Blaser stickers all over the box if anything put a fender sticker on it .

Thanks for the replies folks, as I thought many varied opinions on the subject. I do tend to lean towards the opinion that the less people know what I have with me whilst travelling the better so any unnecessary informing of conductors/drivers should be avoided. However if that's the policy then I'd rather do that than risk being booted off at the next available stop and end up stranded or late so it seems further research would be required before undertaking any journey.
