Factory ammo prices

Just after some reassurance I'm not being ripped off by the local gun shop given what seems the astronomical increase in centrefire ammo prices...

I've done some research online but most of the price lists from the well known retailers are out of date by a few years.

Remington accutip 50 grain .222 was about £22-24 depending on how generous they felt, now £34 a box generally about £30 if bought with some other stuff.

Federal 100 grain .243 used to be about £30 in Match, now around £40/£42.

.17 hmr still around £16 a box of 50 and .22 subs about £6 a box.

Does the above sound about right? I'd hate to think I'm being ripped off, don't think I am but just trying to check as there is limited rfd choice locally.

Thanks.

Have a look at Dauntsey Guns website, as thats normally my benchmark.

Quite a lot listed to give a guide.

Having looked, Federal 100gr SP are now £36 - last time I bought some they were £28. Inflation definitely kicking in, but I suppose it also depends on their availability, stock carry and purchasing power.

I dont think youll find any

Sounds about right-seen them for £38

Seen plenty 17hmr for £45/100. I bought 300 20gn for £100 a few days ago -last of his stock

22lr more like £10-13 per 100.

You lot need to look further afield, those prices are crazy.

Would rather swing buy a more remote gunshop than pay those prices! (Yes, diesel costs money but I've been known to plan substantial detours. The 'scenic route')

My benchmark prices:

.22LR, £50 per 500, so £5 per 50 pack

.223, £60 per 100, so £12 per 20 box

.243, 7mm08 and 308 family under £20 for 20 if PPU or between £25-40 if better quality bullets. Factor in that brass can be sold back for centrefire cartridges.

Geco ammo has impressed me so far, cases are top quality and prices are often on the lower end!

This morning I bought 2 boxes of Hornady 223 Superformance for £22 per box and 2 boxes of Hornady 17HMR V-Max at £18 per box. The big shock was 500 AirArms .22 Diablo Field air gun pellets... £22 per tin!!!

I really only ever buy rimfire.

I load CF for pence, not £2 a shot.

Not surprised when you found projectiles for £10 per 100

Primers are looking like anything between 8-10p per primer or more now... powder not far off £100 per kg.

Did you buy all your consumables in the 1990's? :p

3000 berger 224 for 19p each on sale.... lets just say more than 5 years ago.

Can still get primers for 5.5-7p.

I wont be surprised to see CF ammo at £60/20 a box next year.

this seems to be across the board with shooting supplies, i only really reload, however primers are typically around a £100 a 1000, when a couple of years ago they were £45, then up to £60 last year! Powder was around the £85 to £90 a kg, just bought a kg for £118, its going mad. Typically a reloaded 308 was around 50p,(reloaded) its closer to a £1, and I tend to target shoot, so 80 rounds plus range fees and your in for over a ton, its going to become a rich mans sport before long.

sadly matey they were all shot years ago, last year i found an unopened box of sierra 50 gr blitz, with a price tag still on £4.99
