Qualifications card

I used to dream about basc bashing:norty:
Can I ask why is it BASC bashing when you are just pointing out something that is unaccessible to none members.
when their add state it is open to none members. As you will see I have asked Connor for an explanation but as normal no answer has been given yet.

The shooting season is a coming the basc lot need to fund it somehow there big push for the lead free is perhaps drying up a few invites. And the cartridges from eley stacked in there garages are also running low.

Maybe it's just Devon farmers, but in almost 30 years not one has asked to see anything, not one, they have never heard of DSC1 or 2 (except one for one who did DSC1 for his own benefit ) and in my experience (I have DSC2) they couldn't give a flying fart about qualification's, they just want the deer controlled.
I always have photocopies and proof of insurance in my truck at all times, but as I don't actively look for more ground these days it's pretty pointless.
If anyone contacts me to control their deer I have it, but they are never bothered, they have already checked me out before they contact me.

Non….Non….FFS! 😂😂😂

I will say, recently I was starting to soften to BASC a bit after years of not being too keen, as they are the only organisation that show face on here….but agree that this is silly and seems like a revenue generator!

I agree.
Most farmers down here will know within a minute of talking to you whether they want you on their ground or not. No kind of badge or card is going to change their mind.
I think some newcomers to stalking might quickly get their DSC’s and badges and whatnot and think it’s a way of getting loads of “permissions” fast

Not sure the card can be big enough. I was truly horrified with the list of certificates and qualifications (lots which expire and have to be repeated) that the so-called 'contractors' are required to show to shoot on government ground.

It'll never happen but I still think there should be max 3 qualifications required - say one shotguns and L1 and L2 for deer stalking. As an arse-covering exercise, level 2 could include the suggestion that stalkers do first aid courses, quad handling course or chainsaw course, but that's it. Self-employed contractors should be treated as grown-ups.

Jaysus guys but some of you dont half ****andmoan.
To misquote Brendan Behan, “ there are some people that you could put up for a night in the Ritz, with champagne, a thousand nicker to spend and Gina Lollobrigida besides and they’d still find something to moan about.
Give it a break, if you don't want one don’t get one, this is the first issue, I’m sure it will evolve and improve….

People are entitled to their opinion on this site, as long as its put across in a polite manner, and without name calling. From my own point of view having a card with all your qualifications (if this is what you want to call them) is fairly pointless to me.
Anyone who has passed their DMQ Level 1 and 2 will have the certificate to hand to show any person asking to see it. I have both mine copied and in plastic sleeves to show any new landowner, if they request to see it.
And I also fail to see how this will gain you access to new areas for stalking by showing them a card. Farmers and landowners being what they are will usually want to know you through someone else or with a reference.

Its not BASC bashing, its peoples points of view. As long as the conversation remains polite the thread stays.

There are certain companies, and organizations, that are on my "Last resort" list.

Current leaders are,

Michael O'Leary Ryan Air...............

The BASC........... running a close second. I won't be renewing with them again. As far as I'm concerned, sharp practise, and the members treated as a cash cow !

I keep scanned copies on my iPhone.

Thanks for the queries.

There are limits on the number of qualifications we can place on the card and we have not included BASC’s Shotgun Proficiency Award Scheme for that reason. Also, the card is focused on qualifications relevant to game meat supply and trained hunter status when supplying game at AGHEs.

You can apply for the card if you are not a member of BASC, just leave the BASC membership number box blank when completing the online form. We are updating the webpage to make that clearer.

That makes it an even more useless and pointless proposition, Im staggered !
What youre trying to do is bring in an ID card for game meat supply, when a DMQ game meat hygiene , or LANTRA certification already covers it.
So its actually nothing to do with shooting qualifications at all.

If BASC had anything about them, and considering theyre investment into (part of ) the industry, you would think they would at least make it free to apply.
I suppose they need to re coup that £250,000 from somewhere ?

So, where is the value? Am I supposed to whip it out for my fellow stalkers to say I am in the club? Is there a club where only Level 2 can enter? What about now its made easier with one stalk, do us old lot get extra gold stars for doing three stalks?

No.
Where is the value in one stalk for Level 2 it to attract more people to take Level 2 which means more revenue coming in to BASC.

Is the card made of solid plastic, or is the cheap shiny paper , like the membership card ?

I’ve got solid qualifications, so I’ll need a solid card…
