Qualifications card

One day, perhaps, FACs and SGCs will be small plastic cards, a bit like a driving licence.
No reason they can't be, all your firearms held and vacant slots could be held on a magnetic strip, variations could be done with the swipe of a card a free up understaffed firearms departments, the technology is there, we just need someone to suggest it when they put the list of firearms reforms forward (as always @Conor O'Gorman, I waive my usual consultation fee)

A new card is available to all shooters, allowing users to display their shooting qualifications in one place. The Qualifications Card, launched by BASC and DMQ, includes a photo, membership number and a list of your shooting qualifications. The card is designed to assist users in situations such as gaining permissions to shoot and selling wild game to game dealers. The card is open to BASC members and non-members.

shame its only for basc and DMQ . Good idea but many have some more quals outside of BASC training that are recognized / respected and required . First aid with forestry , Quad etc etc . that are actually required - Could there be a way to extend into these ?

You've hit the nail on the head with that comparison. Whereas driving licences have moved on from the original paper based system administered by the local police, our archaic firearms licensing system remains firmly rooted in the 1920s when it was devised!

Most of which come in an easy to read A4 format, stick them in a folder as I've previously mentioned, take a look at your driving licence and see how hard it is to read which class of vehicle you can drive.
Sorry basc but not a lot of thought has gone into this, your efforts should be focused on defending shooting not producing merit badges

It seems that a lot of people think BASC AND DMQ are different organisations. when they are the same organisation. Same address.

Is the card made of solid plastic, or is the cheap shiny paper , like the membership card ?

I’ve got solid qualifications, so I’ll need a solid card…
Indeed. Very disappointed this year I didn’t have an updated windscreen ice scraper.😆

Joking aside, having been a member for 25 years, I really am quite astounded by what seems a blatant ploy to simply to generate income, especially when there are so many more pressing issues.

Personally I think that had this been communicated differently, the feedback would be far more positive - in the shrinking offering, it should be a benefit of membership, with qualification details (if desired) integrated into the members current membership card.

It should have been a new style membership (Read FoC) card that automatically mopped up any and all BASC qualifications (Which you have already paid handsomely for).

One piece of plastic.......woke box, ticked...

I have loads of plastic from BASC and other courses, pointless adding another one and paying £15 for the privelidge!
I'll pass thanks.

Maybe it's just Devon farmers, but in almost 30 years not one has asked to see anything, not one, they have never heard of DSC1 or 2 (except one for one who did DSC1 for his own benefit ) and in my experience (I have DSC2) they couldn't give a flying fart about qualification's, they just want the deer controlled.
I always have photocopies and proof of insurance in my truck at all times, but as I don't actively look for more ground these days it's pretty pointless.
If anyone contacts me to control their deer I have it, but they are never bothered, they have already checked me out before they contact me.
Just the same, in 30 years of stalking no land owner, agent or representative has ever asked me for anything to do with qualifications, FAC or insurance for that matter. So you can also add Wiltshire , Berkshire, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire to the list.
I think its mostly hyped up by our own fraternity and those looking to make money from qualifications.
Reputation and contacts are worth so much more.

Yes fully agree as with most training courses . Those with the knowledge were taught hands on not by a course with a certificate and who taught the course organisations in the first place.
