PSA prostate test

So that article you posted supports what I said : Exercise positively affects testosterone levels
Read it all .
Your body moves to repair exercise damage, and releases test as part of the process, this is a short term thing. (This is widely accepted by health and lifestyle professionals)

Exercise does not boost test production in the long term, which is what you stated, and can actually have a detrimental effect on older men, as far as their test production is concerned.
To clarify , besides hypogonadism drugs, there is no way of increasing testosterone production in older men in the long term.

Had a PSA test last week as my libido had rapidly nose dived....

Results today of 0.57 which while its comforting to confirm cancer isnt the problem is this a 'getting old' thing I'm 51?

Hoping someone's had similar..... strange group to be asking that question but I dont have any other social groups to ask in.

TIA
Get my results on Thursday at 08.55. Sad to say that life is just a genetic lottery.

I had Prostate cancer 4 1/2 years ago aged 50. No real symptoms except low flow rate. It took 6 months to diagnose a slightly high PSA but a normal feeling prostate. Finally had the MRI and biopsy.
Came back I had a 30mm tumour was put on hormone treatment and had the op to remove. Have a PSA test yearly and may have to have radiotherapy. Just waiting on my last test results. Get checked my younger brother did and also had it. If any of your close male relatives have had it I would certainly ask the doctor to check.

I’m 50, PSA levels were high after complaining about frequent urination and particularly at night time (* couldn’t have a tea or a coffee after 7pm, if I did I’d be up all night) …. PSA level was high enough to warrant an MRI…. Benign enlarged prostate but thankfully no cancer…. I’m on alpha blockers and the little blue pill for special occasions!

Get checked out if you have any concerns…. Life is precious

Yup been checked and have just lost my old man to prostate cancer

I think the thread question is something else though
Does your libido drop in your 50’s
The answer is yes it does.
It can be for a variety of reasons but don’t be shy about using sildanofil (viagra)
Get a private prescription, it’s about 50 pence a pill. And works wonders.

Sildenafil....lest you get something you don't want.

To add to this discussion, I was given the following advice when I reached 50 :-

Never pass a loo without using it.
Never waste an erection, even if you are on your own.
Never trust a f@rt.
It was sound advice, held good for me for nearly 25 years.

My dad first got married at 53 and started a family at 58.
I think Charlie Chaplin was still fathering kids in his 70s and 80s.

I am 52. I asked my GP for a PSA in February, because I was having issues with frequent need to urinate and being up in the night. I'd always thought that I had a 'weak bladder', but it was getting silly. I hadn't been to the GP about it before, partly because of lockdown, but the trouble had been a few years in the making. I never developed any of the other symptoms that were at the back of mind as related, like weak flow, hesitancy, blood in urine, feeling that I hadn't fully emptied.........

I called the GP for my result. It was 139. Bizarrely, she asked me first off if I "practised anal sex". (I resisted the temptation to say in my best Eric Morecambe voice "I do practice. And I'm very good at it"). I understood why she might have leapt to that assumption, and also that many consider the PSA test unreliable, so I suggested that I take another after a period of abstinence (singles and doubles)

I start a 15 week course of chemotherapy on Aug 12th for prostate cancer that's in my lymph nodes and possibly a spot on my bone. My consultant says the tumour is too large to be removed surgically.

I'll need radiotherapy after that and then a long course of hormone treatment (18 months - 2 years). The hormone treatment looks like the worst bit. Lots of nasty side effects, over a prolonged period, though I could be sporting a cracking new set of t*ts 👍
(that's not actually likely, which is a bit of a shame ;) ).

However, I will make a full recovery; it's all reversible.

I'm 'young', fit and healthy. They can't find anything else that might kill me, so I am worth the investment. I could go private, but the NHS are looking after me admirably.

But you can't escape the conclusion that I didn't listen to my body and have consequently made things a lot harder for myself than they needed to be. I've never been shy of getting other sensitive things checked out early by my GP before. Not sure why I tarried on this one.

A long post, but I'm hoping that the wise men on here might learn from my mistakes. Get it checked.

I buried a really good friend (my sons godfather) due to prostate cancer last year. Ignored symptoms for years and when he had to pee a thimble full every two hours at night it was too late and it had metastasised and was in his long bones and spine. My elder brother has been treated successfully in Aus for it, a colleague at work has been treated successfully and I’m tested annually as a relative with it increases your likelihood of developing it by 50%.

Don’t die of embarrassment. Get tested.

Ahah! Had the same problem a while ago so went to the sawbones who questioned me intensively about my sex life but lost interest quickly when in response to the question “when did you last have sex?” I responded “twice last night and then again this morning”…..
Funny old world but do get it checked!

PS
She was mightily impressed so by the time I left it was two this morning……

PSA at 60 was 1.2
Lockdown prevented the 5 year repeat
Age 68 I was losing bladder volume
Saw GP who took blood
5 days later he told me the PSA was 93
Into the NHS I went for consults and investigations plus hormone injections
Just before xmas I was told small cancerous tumor in my prostate, enlarged lymph nodes in the groin/pelvis and a shoulder node that was
a secondary cancer.
Gleason score of 8
Started chemo on Dec 30th (6 treatments every 3 weeks)
After 2nd treatment PSA was 4.8
At the end of treatments PSA 1.8
Now having 6 radiotherapy treatments.
By Christmas bone scans etc will be completed and I will be given the ok to get back to a normal life;)

I am in good humour, very positive and planning for the years ahead- should have at least 5 years, fingers crossed 10.
So, holidays with the grown up children, doing lots of things with my companion (she is also positive about the future) and doing some part time work.

Meanwhile I'm out rabbit shooting most weeks, not yet back sea swimming/scuba but,if he has any spaces after Christmas, I hope for a high seat session or two with Malcolm.
Well done that man, it was a positive attitude that saw me through throat cancer and an amputation... positive outlook and the love of a good woman 👍

I was peeing blood for about a week last year. The doctors got me booked into the hospital the following week. After having a camera inserted where I thought a camera would never fit and a finger inserted where only things had exited previously, I was given the all clear and no symptoms since.
So for anybody worry about going don't there was nothing to it better safe than sorry and thank goodness for numbing gel !! 🙄

Update on this;
Back from holiday and still experiencing peeing and hard on issues...
GP yesterday- the lady I see was away so saw a male Dr who had a junior Dr sitting in.....

He renewed my repeat prescription for my back pain meds then noted the PSA test, now I didnt know film stars did GP work, but if I tell you this Dr was the spitting image of the big guy out of the film 'the green mile" its important you believe me.

Chatting through things he suggests a rectal examination... a quick glance of his hands and I agreed - like some monster men he had smaller hands and fingers than me.

Result was a slightly larger prostate that was smooth, even and nice apparently.

He prescribed saw palmemtto - already suggested in this thread by someone so thank you who ever you are 👍
He also prescribed me some viagra 😎 which I'll try later this week.

He has given me another blood test for some things including testosterone, he was bald - I was jelous as another comment here was as I had a full head of hair in my 50s it was at the expense of my testosterone so it will be interesting to see.

Todays mission is to book a blood test... 🙄

This was my first rectal examination, whilst like many I suspect- I had reservations but it was a doddle 👍 it was neither pleasant or unpleasant, it only took seconds, it was actually nothing to worry about after all... ideally I would of preferred a female Dr, but having gone through it with a man, a fricking HUGE man - I will say that if any of you have doubts dont delay.

As others have said and recent tv ads, if you suspect something get it checked out.
I had an uncle die of prostate cancer...never had it checked
In 2019 my lovely brother in law, (sisters husband) died of pancreatic cancer after he thought it was his usual kidney problems. By the time they found it he had 4 weeks to live.
Stay safe.
