375H&H - Good reason and UK use?

Conditioning and zeroing: Not only did D&C not listen to reason regarding aolq, they have their ears blocked to the overseas load development issue too. Once again, I cannot shoot expanding ammunition in any UK context [range zeroing/FGASA training, etc]. So it is impossible to develop loads for use when facing dangerous game. Which is bonkers.
Not sure I follow. Expanding ‘missiles’ as a separate item on ticket was done away with.

Barring energy limits (which might be applicable to you and is a range issue not an FEO issue), you can use expanding ammunition on ranges.

Are your conditions set that you cant shoot it at all in the UK or possess expanding ammunition? If so, appeal. If not, load expanding and shoot.

I happen to know of others in D and C who are conditioned to use 375 on deer. Good backstops though.

This error was fixed a while back. The erroneous singling out of expanding ammunition has been removed. And I am free to do load development. And that load development has paid off in Africa, most recently in November: https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/posts/2252448/bookmark

However, D&C still decline .375 domestic use for aolq. Which, as you say, seems peverse as many shooters in the jurisdiction do have the aolq rating for that caliber and larger.

Heym," But heaven forbid if government and its agencies had a similar way of working in slightly more important matters like the Economy, Health, International Relations, National infrastructure, or even little things like welfare, jurisprudence or climate change."
I think this is already evident

Afternoon all,

I'd like to put a question ot to any on here who currently have a 375.

I'm interested in one myself, primarily as a driven boar tool in the short to medium term, but with the end goal of a trip to Africa in the back of my mind for the future as well.

I'm in the process of putting together a variation for the calibre and wondered if any on here had one for the purpose of driven boar or possibly even UK deer? This will be my 'good reason' for the application and I wanted to know if any others had seen success under these conditions?

I don't necessarily need AOLQ, as I'm not planning on ever shooting game in the UK with it, but I would need it conditioned for zeroing and practice for load development and use on the driven boar facility at my club.

This to me seems a reasonable request, but what say the people of SD? Reasonable chance of success, or a bit optimistic?
I have one conditioned for overseas use but also it is on my open ticket for use over here.I put it down for over seas use along with variation for dangerous game and it came back added to my ticket as such but also with use here.I’ve used it here and will use it from time to time on the big stuff especially during the rut I mean why not if it’s in the cabinet then it should be used.I suppose i could be lucky as I have a sensible feo and as long as I have good reason there has never been an issue.

Interesting what was the wording you used for good reason?

No one needs a .375 in the U.K. but I guess it’s fun to use once in a while but I’d guess it’s more hobby stalkers who want to use one over here.

My local force would do it I think but variations take nearly a year I wouldn’t dare

My good reason was dangerous game abroad
A good reply for using a 375 overseas is “ its better to be overgunned for plains game than undergunned for dangerous game“. The 375, with its classic loads of 235, 270 and 300 grain bullets is indeed a universal caliber rifle for Africa.

Rather an all encompassing reply, do anything part time for your local FEO's?

No but my local Feo once said to me the same thing plus out of all the professional wildlife managers I know in the U.K. not one needs a .375 to do their job however like I said boys and toys and if makes you happy then go for it

Need is not the same as "good reason".
Some of us hobby stalkers go abroad regularly so why shouldn't we use these larger calibres for UK deer.
I could argue that all we need is a ,243 for the Uk.
This kind of narrow minded post depresses me.
I never fail to be amazed by the ignorance and narrow mindedness shown in our sport by so many.
In a recent post discussing this calibre some ignorant suggested we need a better backstop for it than other cartridges!
The enemy within.

Re read what I posted and realise im against it but I’d say the majority of people who push for .375’s don’t use them. Wasn’t a moan or criticise just an observation.
I travel more than most through Europe hunting so see what people use and take there.
If people want a .375 then go for it
