Pigeon shooting - for the rich…

You said inflation is hitting everything and that a 65% hike pales in to insignificance compared to every day items. They were your words. That is simply not true.

You might be paying a lot more for agri derv but I am paying the same for rocket and leafy green veg, I am paying the same for cheese and potatos. I am paying the same rent. Alcohol hasn't budged nor have cleaning products like bleach etc. I am paying the same for all sorts of stuff that I cannot be bothered to list. Of course I am paying a shed load more lots of other things. I am not saying inflation is a fallacy. Clearly that is not the case. What is fallacy is that a 65% hike in costs is in some way normal across the board for every day items. I was simply stating that this is not the case.
All i can say is you live in a very special place with frozen prices. Everything ww buy in the supermarkets here eg tesco and lidl has gone up at least 20% in the past 3 months including the things you mentioned. Bleech up 54% dog treats 33% bread 40% milk 20%. I could go on. The cartridges i use cost me 330 per 1000 in december 2021, just been quoted 460 1000 same shop.

Shooting pigeons after harvest isn’t pest control, if anything they are doing a good job cleaning up potential volunteers from next years crop by eating what the combine blew through. I’m not against it by any means but it has next to no impact on next years flocks and should be enjoyed for what it is, sport.

Last year I was paying 45p a litre for red, now I’m paying £1.20.
I didn't think we could shoot pigeons over stubble for sport anymore ? or has it changed ? The farm where I work now drills green cover straight behind the combine along with volunteers it helps lock up the nitrogen over winter for the next spring crop. The great thing for me is the cover crop contains Buckwheat and Clover and the deer love it !

I don't live in a special place. I live in the real world where some stuff has simply not gone up. I said "some" not most.

I buy bleach in Tescos. It is still a quid. Same as toilet duck. I bought some strawberrys earlier. Good sized tub for £2. I am sure that is the same if not actually cheaper than last year. Rocket has been a quid a bag for as long as I can remember. There will be more without question.

But like I said in my other post, loads of stuff (more than has stayed the same) has gone up. I don't disagree with that. We are all worse off due to rising prices. I get that but I am not going to sit here and say everything has gone up or gone up by 65%. It hasn't. I don't know anything about Lidl though as I don't shop there.

Where are these "hordes" of Deer ?, certainly not on the 2000 acres I help farm and stalk !!. This time of year I am at work dark till dark and only ever see 6 or 7 at most, or maybe I'm just blind !! Sorry wrong place posted !!
Went for a wee drive with the wife. Saw 300+ Red up the "hill", 15+ Fallow in the fields on the way up and about another 40 Red Hinds a couple of fields down. So up here, would be the answer. So much for the "there aren't any deer left in the Highlands" brigade

Prices are going up because companies are charging more and blaming it on cost inflation. Have a look at the profits they announce.

I purchase cartridges for the guys that shoot pigeons for me. I think that's a fair deal.
Very fair indeed not to say unusual - certainly in NI where even beaters, pickers-up etc. are lucky to get a brace.
You don’t have any unmarried sisters, daughters, cousins, nieces perchance?

The inflation that we have now is partly pay-back for all the furlough money-for-nothing that was dished out over the last couple of years in my opinion.

£84 a bargain just wait until they are steel shot and biodegradable wads then more like a £100.

Cartridges just like primers, powder and bullets have shot up in price over the last year or so.
Just bought 1000 Black Gold bio wad £488

Wait till it’s all non lead and see what you have pay for bio wad steel then. I’d expect £650/1000 the rate it’s going.

Standard non bio wad steel like gamebore super steel used be £120 12 years ago and is now £370 but no one can use plastics anymore locally
