Classifieds 'time out/sinbin' ?

Well yes, that’s entirely fair enough.

Can still question them though! I don’t imagine you obey every single rule you encounter in life without wondering about the logic, even if you do go along with them because doing so is ultimately better than not!

What is there to question?

It's really pretty simple. Any member can post 5 items per month. To post double that, become a Supporter. That doesn't mean you have to post 10 items per month, but it is one of the benefits....you also gain the opportunity to win something "for free" in the monthly draw (@Stalker1962 excepted).

Where would the logic be in Admin pandering to those who don't care enough to support the site but stilll seek to gain the benefit of its broad membership? All that would do is negate one of the benefits of being a Supporter.

You are using a forum that costs money to run and, for the most part, it's free to use. But if you want to use it to sell stuff, it's really only fair that you should contribute to the site. Even then, it's free for the occasional advert. Or are you actually willing to let someone else pay for your enterprises, whether it is just getting rid of unwanted stuff or not?

So it's only reasonable that there are rules about selling stuff. You might want to argue those rules aren't quite to your liking and argue for change. But let's face it, £6.00 a quarter to be a supporter and have the ability to advertise things (10 things each 30 days) and at the same time feeling good about contributing in a small way (whether you have anything to sell or not) won't break the bank.

£6.00 a quarter, less than a coffee for you and the other half in Costa or somewhere.

Nope.

Still doesn’t make sense.

I don’t want to sell 10 items a month - I want to sell 10 now and be done with them. And that will be me done for another year or two.

Unclear why that is regarded as exploiting the site, when under the site rules you could sell 60 things over the next 12 months for free.

Well I want to sell 20 30 now and be done with them!

;)
Yup, I get the point.

I suppose it’s more or less inevitable to avoid escalation. You either allow a free for all and the trade members get shafted by chancers, or you impose rules like this.

I do wonder if being allowed to roll over your monthly allowance (at least to some extent) might not be an option. It must be pretty common for people to end up like this - an occasional clear out every few years, generating quite a number of items.

Still doesn’t answer why someone who sells 60 things in a year can do it for free, providing they stretch it out over 12 months, but someone who wants to sell 10 things today can’t without paying…

Would seem to make more sense to impose a yearly cap. Or even quarterly.
Imho no one should have anymore than "read only" access without paying the very small fee.
That way every one would have "fair" access and indeed the fee could be reduced as the load of the many wouldn't be borne by the few.

Arguably then the trade members and high volume sellers would actually be exploiting the contributions of the standard members.

Of course this is one of the debates at the core of the ongoing argument about how best to structure and pay for social media in general.

We’re also confusing two separate issues here. There’s the issue of how you pay for the site, and whether it should be free, subscription or hybrid. The other issue is simply how you differentiate between those who use the site as a marketplace as part of their business, and those who use it as social media and occasionally sell stuff. My interpretation of the classifieds cap is that it has nothing to do with ‘fairness’ and contributing to the site. It is designed to stop people who don’t have trade membership, but who would otherwise use it as a marketplace for their (undeclared) business, thereby undercutting the trade members.

Which is why I think it would be entirely fair and in keeping with the spirit of the cap to be allowed to roll over your allowance… 😁

Have a look on facebook for UK stalking/shooting/reloading groups.

Stuff is often cross-posted there and on SD, but sometimes there are good bargains to be had too...

Just out of interest how does the site define per month. Is it per calendar month or from when you post or what?

David.

I have had some extremely bad experiences on FB - one of the very great benefits of this site is that there is a reasonable reputational effect.

But yes, I think that’s the way my junk very reasonably priced high quality equipment will need to go.

Admittedly I have sold quite a few things on SD in recent weeks, but it appears I have incurred a 'time-out' with regards to posting there.

Well it would be fair enough to group them into themes, say:

1. Used Swaro dS's in Caberslash's cupboard as one and

2. Burnt out 7mmRM barrels as another

:D

p.s. got mine back (eventually UPS), no hint as to what was fixed.

Thanks to admin for letting me post items for free, in return I hope I have helped other SD members.

Those wanting unlimited free adverts aren't being fair. To wait a month for another free advert is no issue.
