is there really another way than " on the job"?My old lab learnt on the job and did very well. New lab/gsp cross is showing lots of promise.
Yes a course first too put the basics in place like steadiness recall using skins too shoe differences between wind scent ground scent etc there’s loads that can be done before you take it into a real life scenariois there really another way than " on the job"?
I meant without introductory training with scent shoes etc.is there really another way than " on the job"?
personally having done only two dogs, is dont bother unless your after doing tests / demonstrations . My first i worked hard on ( a GWP) the other i just took out ( a Lab , i used primarily wildfowling) he made it look easy first go . Well i better qualify that a bit the lab had followed down many a goose and had been on a fair few deer kills but actual set blood trailing and slot shoes etc zero .I meant without introductory training with scent shoes etc.
I take your point. My problem is that I don't get to stalk often so I wanted Lochie to have some idea of what the game is before he even got to see a deer. It paid off; I struggled to find this one in the thick brash but he led me to it once we found some blood. Not bad for nine months! Hope he remembers the kidney he got. I like his "OK, now what?" expression.personally having done only two dogs, is dont bother unless your after doing tests / demonstrations . Hi, did you follow the blue print on dvd or was it the downloaded version/subscription?Currently training mine steadiness is key ,I followed the big game indicating dog blue print by Paul Michaels ,great course and she’s turning into a tidy dog with it , she’s about 14 months now and tracked two deer the end of last year for me , nothing difficult but enough too keep her interested , she’s now indicating and put me onto a doe in the next field over last outing so she’s getting there![]()
