Full moon and Foxes .. Good or bad ?

Who says you can't shoot them sitting on the sofa...... one of my most productive foxing areas is on the bottom field, luckily for me I can sit on the sofa in the kitchen with the thermal to hand, and when Charlie turns up to the baited spot it's open the cabinet, get the rifle and bingo, Excellent fun in the winter when your cooking supper, sometimes we have a late one ;) Luxury foxing I call it.
I can do much the same from the patio doors in slippers 😉

All hail the mighty Tdi ! Adored by women, envied by men, destroyer of worlds, and saviour of the weak, see his enemies beaten and driven before him, and hear the lamentation of their women !

Good job there was only the one. Lugging that cannon about the place his arms would have ached too much to lift it to aim at another

He probably could have managed a second TBH .. we were only 10yds from the car  One less to sit out for when the nights are frosty (do you remember nights like that ? ) so a good job done :)

Nipped out for a quick look, didn’t need a lamp - sooo bright. Saw absolutely nothing - not even the usual badgers which seem to be a constant presence on the ground.
Got home and was just lifting the blessed triple deuce out of the jeep and this little chap ran the length of the front lawn right up to me. No fear whatsoever so I assume someone nearby must be handfeeding? Made an otherwise fruitless night quite special.

I did actually go out last night. Baited up, sat in the shadow of a tree About 60 yards. It is so dry that you so much as wiggle your ass and it rustled across the whole field. Anyway, fox turned up, I fluffed the shot, fox ran off, farmer next door heard the shot and started driving around looking for poachers, watched him for half an hour before he sodded off, then shot a bunch of bunnies. But is is definitely difficult. Didn’t help the wind wasn’t right for me either. Ho hum, but not a bad night all in all. Just need to get my 243 zero checked so I can use the nv. I mean a torch? How primitive!

I had been out a few nights prior when the moon was very bright and saw nothing but hares and the resident, ever-flourishing herd of badgers. However, I went out last night (moon still very full) and parked the vehicle in the deep shadow of a tall hedgerow with plenty of trees. I didn't call but instead sat and waited. Watched the local flock of badgers for a bit and eventually spotted a vixen crossing the field; she took no notice of my squeaks or cat-calling so had to wait for her to stop, which she did.

In my fairly limited experience I have found that they do move and can be shot on moonlit nights but are far less bold in general and tend to stick to the shadows themselves. Similar tactics needed I think...
