Wanted: Help Needed

Hi I’m posting this in the hope that you guys out there may be able to help. Gloucestershire Firearms are processing my FAC application but for target shooting only. They will only accept a variation for vermin control and deer when I have documented evidence of several accompanied outings with a current FAC holder using the calibres I have applied for (.22LR, .223 & .270) or higher. So what I’m asking is if I could go out with you on your permission and shoot a rabbit/fox/deer with your rifle and document this. I’m based in Stroud Gloucestershire and I’m an older gentleman with 40 years experience of shotguns and air rifles and I have training and experience using .22LR and .308 at my club. I also have experience hunting with night vision spotters and scopes and I’ve recently obtained my DSC1. I’m not asking for a free ride I am willing to reimburse you for your time and fuel etc. Many thanks.

Good luck. When you called yourself an older gentleman I was expecting you to be in your 80s. You'll find that at the age of 62 you will be younger than many on here :).

good afternoon ,if you look at the deer stalking availability on the forum i am sure you will be able to book a stalk or two and not be disappointed.just hoping to go out with some one on their permission will be difficult .you are not know and some land owners do not want strangers on their ground even if they are with the stalker/pest controller. best to pay the going rate for a stalk and get a letter from them IF they think you are safe etc.

Evening,

Lot of my permission is around the Cotswolds just up the road from Stroud.

You say you have experience but your post reads to me that you currently don't have any firearms is that correct?

I am happy to try and help out but possible need to meet up for a coffee or somthing 1st and see how we go.

Do you have any permissions of your own?

All the best

You need to speak to your shooting association , dont just fix it for you but fix it for all in the area. You have a DSC 1 , range experience with up to 308. There is just a jobs-worth to deal with. Shot assessment in the field is part of your DSC1 and you have range experience up to 308 , Suitable land and 40 years of SGC holder. If that is all provable then this should be far easier to fix then getting someone to take you out , Oh and experience with the caliber you already have ( even though all deer calibers should have the same standard of safe shot assessment). You will also be doing the next applicant a Favour

Provided that you have an initial "good reason" for the grant of a FAC (which you say you have, in the form of target shooting), you should not be restricted to that use only, according to the HO guidelines.

You need to push back on this - it’s ridiculous to expect all these hoops to be passed through to get deer/vermin added.

Also, why does it matter which chambering you use? If you are using a common centrefire it should be transferable across all the others!

Some firearms authorities are getting out of hand with their “requirements”….

It's all changed, the application hasn't got as far as the FEO, this directive has come from the administrator via the COP. I have to demonstrate competent use of which DSC1 is part of it. Madness I know but as I said for new applications the process has changed.

I think that's nonsense. All you have to demonstrate is good reason. Sounds like your local force is making up their own rules as they go along. Challenge it.

Mate, You need to sort this ! You are only lacking someone getting of their comfy chair . The Requirements for a FAC hasn't changed and all forces have been told no changes till they get on with the job they are tasked to do !
