Wanted: Update on trying to get a deer stalk

In late May this year I shot a munty at around 10.15 pm with a standard scope - plenty of light then to make a safe shot.

Back to the OP I’m not one to put off anyone starting out I’ve started a lot of folk out myself with their first deer or given them permission for first fac grant but from what I gather I don’t think stalking is for you , I’d seriously book a cheap cull stalk on does before committing to anything

I agree. I wouldn't worry about doing a DSC or PDS, just get out on a stalk and see if you like it. It might not be for you.

I was helped with my first three stalks by a great guy but since I missed the deer on last visit (altered my zeroing)
Been on two paid stalks cant wait for my next one

Just here to update as a while back I asked about deer stalking in my area and I now have a few bits of information to add

As of recently I have decided to put myself through the PDS1 course (proficient Deer Stalking certification level 1 ) and I’m now setting up my practical shooting assessment with an approved verifier which will allow them to obtain range time and proper experience with deer rifles. I’m now sorting the date for it to take place around January into the new year.

After the shooting assesment I would like to arrange a first stalk soon after , I’ve been advised that assessors can help you get you first stalk in however I’m also going to look here for advice and or further ways into getting a stalk in, most likely I should be available after the new year.

Because nobody else has stated it in the thread .... You do not need any qual to actually shoot a deer , if you are accompanied by a stalker who carries the rifle till the shot is on . IMHO new commers to stalking are best going out Stalking at least the one time .
There is NO CUMPULSION to take a course , get all the gear etc

Nothing wrong is doing something towards your goal, 99% of us would have had driving lessons and these days it is a bigger thing,
I take it you sat your driving test and was asked questions on the highway code from the examiner's sheet ?
Then you "got all the gear" your first car!
