I came up to the Yarrow valley, west of Selkirk, yesterday from Leeds. Packed the car in heavy rain, drove through heavy rain and arrived to mild rain. I’ve been out for several hours today and the weather has been great. I’ve been watching various weather forecasts and they seem to be changing for the better. Looks like rain in the morning tomorrow and clearing during the afternoon.

Combined visit for me, arrived at Andy's workshop 9am Friday, Callum had been as good as his word & the running game scope was duly fitted, a few little tweaks to the rifle generally & good to go, a bit of sightseeing round & about then off up into nice digs in Blackford, (Owner described a pretty good version of a SikaMalc regular), those digs were so good I would not search about unless unavailable in future.
Rain started on leaving for Eskdalemuir, Truck wash type rain that did not let up except for around a five-minute window during the day, I confined my shooting to a few trial loads in the new .375 H&H, after a couple of shots zeroing at 100 yards every trial round using N140 struck the steel stag @ 200 off the elbow, N160 it did not like at all, & when you see someone tip out a welly full of water, think rifle slips & range mats.

We were about 20 people, 9 pulled out the day before. A good day.

There were some fine marksmen demonstrating the art on the line too. My thanks to Bark (spelling) for his turret twiddling.

It was a top day, very challenging conditions but not impossible, with lots of impacts all the way out to 900M.
It's always good to train in difficult conditions and really appreciate where the guaranteed first round impact capability stops for each individual person/rifle.
As above thanks to @Selous for organising the event and @Ronin for the massive help he offered people throughout the day.

Was a very good day out on the range - allowing people to challenge their comfort zone and see the true potential of themselves and their rifles
No one would advocate taking shots beyond “normal stalking ranges” but there may be a time when a wounded animal may require follow up shot at a distance beyond what would be considered normal to immobilise / dispatch it
No one wishes to take these shots but if you don’t practice or challenge your envelope if that situation is presented all you can do is frankly **** in the wind
“ In time of peace prepare for war “ I believe the saying goes - it’s a shortsighted individual who believes they will never need a follow up during their deer stalking career

The event addressed all three

It was sunny by the time I hit Langholm!! (and no, the petrol station was still not open, the read out said '0 miles' just as I pulled into Longtown garage, phew!)
