Vacancy: FE Wildlife Ranger

If you don't want a pay cut, don't apply for the job, unless it really means a lot to you to do it. Simples.
I'm speaking as someone who made a lifestyle choice when I was very young. I've never earned anything like the amount stated in that job advert (I'm 50 now), but I've thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of what I do. Had I made a choice based on income I would probably be in a very different place now, and not half so happy. Every business decision I've ever made has been based on how much enjoyment I'll get out of doing something, not how much money it'll make me.
I'm sure there are plenty of other hard-working folk out there with a similar mindset who'd love that job, regardless of the wage.
Unless you're paying your bills with hopes and dreams then that's just a lie. Every business decision you have made had to make financial sense regardless of enjoying it or you'd end up bankrupt. Yoy have made decisions based on what you enjoy AND what you can afford to do and survive on.

When faced with the choice between doing something that earns more money, or doing something that's more enjoyable, taking the latter course is much more fulfilling, in my experience.
Break even is good enough for me.

That's very true and I agree but earning more and enjoying it aren't mutually exclusive and just because an employer can get away with paying below market average because there are people willing to do the role doesn't mean it's right.

I agree, but if the wage subsequently increases based on results, rather than being pitched high to start with, that solves the problem, surely? That rewards people for actually doing stuff (the grafters) rather than rewarding the person who does the bare minimum required of him in order to pick up his pay packet.

Members have commented on never earning that salary in their lifetime, well years ago you didnt have to as property prices were far far lower compared to the wages.

Try renting on 29k a year and trying to save 25k for a house deposit at the same time.

Im sure the job would be very nice but wanting to be fairly compensated for a job doesnt make you the wrong candidate.

I'd love an outdoor job like that and as idealistic as it is doing something for the passion, pressures of this expensive world would soon suck the joy away when you dont have a pot to p#ss in.

Maybe good if youre living at home, married well or winding down for retirement though.

A calling and a way of life. Lol
How romantic.

It’s a paying job, a not very well paying job at that.
And the quickest way to fall out of love with your hobby is to do it as a job.
Yep.If you do your hobby every day it will, sooner or later, become just a job.If the wages don't justify your effort then soon you'll grow to resent going to work.

In any job you should be paid for the work you do and the work you are supposed to do. Set an accurate job description and a fair wage and you will get the right staff.

If like a lot of employers they want to pay the minimum but expect staff to work for free by "going the extra mile" to prove themselves then this is just taking advantage and a race to the bottom.

Is that vouchers to go to the food banks. I think there may just be little or no pay rises for a while for pblic sector workers. As soon a there is a financial crisis it's the auto pay freeze. Thanks to the mini budget I think that will be on the cards
Thanks to the £450 billion pumped into the economy at the time of the pandemic, plus about £150bn went in by BoE post budget. Every adult in the U.K. would’ve had ca. £12k/15k into their account (there’s a useful stimulus to the economy right there), but instead it percolates its way away from the working and middle classes, and on up to the top 0,1%. Wealth inequality and inflation, both government failings, are potentially easily remedied, if only given the will.
Inflation, if sought by governments, will always be achieved. Look at the mess in EU, and how too little too late they are attempting to deal with that:

Have a vote on it? This guy has been betting on it (successfully) since 2009:

Christ alive. If you don’t like the salary, feel free not to apply. There are plenty of folk already in employment with the commission, funnily enough many of them stay for donkeys years, so clearly money is not everything to everyone. Equally it is for those who are employed by fc and in unions to express their discontent, if indeed they are so, with their salaries. Why folk from the outside looking in care that much I can’t fathom, because they clearly don’t want the job, they seem to just like to moan apparently on others behalves…..
and funnily enough, there never seems to be a short supply of applicants so guess there are plenty for whom money isn’t the main driver.
It’s called voicing an opinion, it’s what forums are for.
If it upsets you you should maybe just read a book.

Surprised FE have not gone down the contractor route like FLS, which have reduced ranger numbers by around 50% or more in the past 20 years.

Why people feel the need to have opinions about something that clearly is irrelevant to them astounds me, do people really have that little to do with their own lives?

no pension liabilities....would make more sense. Do FLS contractors make a living wage though?

deer management, quite relevant to (most) people on this forum.

I suspect this might come as a bit of a shock to you, but you dont get to decide who can have or voice an opinion, on any topic. If people arent being offensive or ripping forum members off, let it go? We can all disagree with someone’s point of view without trying to close others down.

Pay peanuts get monkey 🐒 as the old saying goes !
Better off keeping your well paid jobs and paying for your stalking no pressure!

As can I surely? Just my opinion, if you and others don’t like it, ignore it…..

Some folks have a calling to certain ways of life, which rake finds amusing and romantic in the case of a fe rangers position, Yes it is a job and compared to some careers not financially well rewarded but offers a way of life for a minority of folks who Are passionate and choose it 😇.
Opinions like bottoms everyone got one. I am not and never have been a fe ranger but in my opinion in a totally non romantic sense for some will be a great career if dedicated, talented and hardworking.
If money be your god do not become a ranger, or keeper stalker, simples.😊 and yes this is only my informed opinion.
