Stocked up when 1995?? Copper deer projectiles has been around £1 per bullet since before obama was in!

And I did stock up, bullet excluded I'm loading deer ammunition for £0.15 per round, but that is no good to anybody getting into shooting now who didn't have the opportunity before.
Ive some stocks from 2014/15..... and in every year since but mainly bought in 2021 and early 2022.

In fact I bought a load of this forum several times. Anyone could have bought them. Including a substantial number of copper / brass projectiles (at a very low price) and lead based in 224, 6mm and 30cal.

I estimate powder for 308 around 30p and 8p for primer so your 15p is exceptional......

If shooting and deer stalking is important enough, people will make the effort. If it isnt, they wont. This includes making whichever available projectiles work in the rifles you have.

Instead, people just like to moan.

You are intentionally missing the point that people getting into shooting now will not have that opportunity.

We all know reloading used to be a cheap option. For people buying consumables currently it won’t be.

And yes my 15p is exceptional, I bought some clearance powder at £5.95/lb so I am loading .280 (63 grains of powder) at 15p a round plus 55p for a yew tree bullet, because I am prepared. But unlike yourself I can see by one my own blinkered outlook at what others may experience.

Plus the thread was exclusively asking about factory ammunition so why come on and start Moaning it’s peoples’ own fault and they should reload?

As above some people don’t have the option so as the old saying goes maybe if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!

I'll pay what ever it cost for ammo so I can hunt. It matters not if its factory or homelands. Strange how there seems little moaning about the cost of a rifle and must have the latest all singing, all dancing scope. Don't get me started on the cost of NV and the need to have the latest upgraded model. A couple of quid for a bullet and it seems like the end of the world is nigh.
I'm sure people will still be belly aching about the price of ammo in 20 years time.

Funnily enough like petrol and cars it’s the consumable / running cost that people notice and moan about more not the long term purchase!

What bums me out the most is the cost of fuel and ammo/components is making virtually impossible to afford practice and also shooting for 'fun', these days every mile and bullet counts.

When will we be able to drive to places to enjoy ourselves, like the shooting range, clays, or golf range, etc....for the lucky one's that's not changed, but for the most people, it's become a luxury that once was, and may not return

People do moan about the cost of rifles. That’s why many shoot tikka’s as they are fairly cheap and people like to moan about blasers.

I hope all these “it doesn’t matter how much it costs” people are supporting shooting by paying for a driven day as well…at 50-80 quid a bird and the price of Hp steel….that won’t matter to them.😂

I’ve been thrashing, add £270 RugerM 77 for 15 years fired over 4000 rounds, plus whatever the previous owner shot and it still shoot the gnats cock size groups!

who needs a £3k rifle?

that’s why I can afford to shoot copper, even my 7 x 57 is a Ruger and cost me £350 That’s the last rifle I’ll ever buy. In fact you’re probably even sling the 270 rust bucket Ruger in the hole as well when i snuff it! 😂

In fact, my 270 rust bucket Ruger shoots better than most Blasers 😂😂😂

What’s the point in shooting in Bush chickens?

They taste like ****, tough as old boots. Personally, I can’t think of anything fuking worse!

That’s speaking as an ex keeper, complete waste of time and money

Yet you use tailored angler or avid equipment for fishing - why not use Aldi gear etc - I’ve had an Aldi jacket and tent for 10 years, still going strong, waterproof! 😉

If only you listened to your own advice...

Because there is reasonable priced and well built quality gear and cheap crap there’s a vast difference between the two!

My rifles are cheap because they’re cackhanded, and about as unfashionable as a rifle can get, but the Ruger, M77 is built on one of the worlds, strongest commercial actions, so from a practicality point of view, it’s bombproof therefore will last forever, plus you’re not gonna lose the trigger guard come magazine because it’s all built-in and not £600 to replace!🙈😂

I buy what lasts, all my scopes binoculars have lifetime guarantee my fishing gear is the best money can buy, and that’s because it lasts!

I have got to the stage where wanna buy the bugger once, I’ve done now with my fishing, what I should’ve done 25 years ago!

If you can afford to shoot big game with a 375H&H can afford the gold for a box of bullets, simple as that!
Same goes for buying a days pheasant shooting or a driven boar trip. The ammo is a very small part of the total layout. The same can be said for those who buy a days stalking.
For those that want to use a .375 for boar a .308, 30.06 or several other medium calibre rifles will kill boar just as well as a 375 at a lot less cost. Plus there's a good chance you'll shoot better with a .308.
