Apple Watch

I just got a galaxy watch 2nd hand for £50 to replace my GearFit2, great watch not the best with Apple phones.

My GF has a Garmin one with the solar charger built into the face, its needs a charge like once every 30 days.
ah same as mine, got loads of features too, incl all the health monitoring and obvs the Garmin sat tracking - I think theres a specific hunting app on one of their models, but not sure. It’s a bomb proof watch though and syncs nicely with the iphone.

I just asked her, its the Garmin Instinct Solar. She loves it for all her scrambling and climbing.

Maybe worth a look @gixer1

I was bought an SE (the larger one) this year as a gift. I used to wear a Gshock for work as it was the only thing that put up with my 'i break everything' lifestyle.

I put it in a Spigen Tough case and straps (Gshock replica stuff) and its been brilliant. I have weather warnings active, i can quickly take a phone call without scrabbling for my phone, and it even tells the time...I have to admit, I also use it to turn lamps on & off via siri/smart plugs at home...which isn't helpng with my daily step count.

If i'd have bought one myself, I might have been tempted by a garmin, but I like the apple syncing of everything.

Like most tech stuff if you haven’t got one you won’t miss it.
My lot have them and i’ve always been you don’t need them, you have a phone!
My eldest upgraded his a few years ago and chucked his old one at me and said give it a go.
Got to say i find it handy, i work in an environment where i don’t always hear my phone, everything now comes through the watch and i know instantly with a buzz on the wrist, replying to texts is a doddle via siri, no keypads to mess with and it works a treat.
I’m on a bit of a fitness drive at the min and it’s great for logging your activity and heart rate.
For shooting the phone stays in the dry and with W3W and the emergency feature on the watch mean if i go down out in the field i’m not fumbling for a phone to get help.

Had my Apple Watch for a couple of year now and love it. I was paying for the SIM for it at £5 a month through 02 but found rubbish for calls so I cancelled it, I do use it to track my bike rides and walks and I find it does give you a kick up the arse and makes you generally more active.
My daughter has the SE and TBH if I upgrade in the future I will get the SE as it does everything I want the watch for.

dirty/greasy/bloody hands….
My good lady has a android equivalent. She loves the convenience it offers.

However:
Do you rear a watch now?
Given your quote above, how long will the nice shiny thing last?

I gave up wearing a watch a long time ago as they were too easily damaged by my hands on activities.

Just a thought.

I have a few watches (some fairly nice ones too) and they all gather dust! But I guess that’s because they are just that - a watch, the apple ones are really a phone on your wrist…which is why I think I would use it. 👍🏻

It won’t get any special treatment and if it breaks then so be it - it wasn’t fit for my purpose but from what I’m reading they seem to take a battering!

And if I’m honest my phones take a fair battering!

That spigen stuff has been really good to me. Apple Watch case, airpods case and phone case have all put up with me VERY well!

So, 6 months on from this I thought I’d put an update to this thread - after getting an Apple Watch SE.

Great bits of kit and the benefits for stalking are clear to me, a few things it can do -

If you have a fall, it will flag it and can send an alert to a designated phone or ask you to acknowledge you are ok otherwise it will call emergency services.

You can check messages without having to take your phone out of your pocket. (Great when a few of you communicating in an area to see where everyone is)

No need to cover your phone in blood when gralloching if someone calls etc…

It also acts as a watch! 😂😂

You can use the “find watch” app that can make the watch beep to find it (or the person it’s attached to!)

You can (along with your phone) track the route you have taken if you need to find something again.

You can voice activate it to make it call emergency or someone - by using the “hey siri, phone XYZ as I’ve fallen out of a high seat”….

So far I find it very useful and a good addition to the “just in case” equipment.

Regards,
Gixer
