Anyone k ow much about these? I basically want one so I don’t have to take my phone out of my pocket to read texts/answer calls etc and want the basic health tracking - what are my options as there seems to be a fair variety of options.

Just basic I think is what I need but I see there are SE’s and different series etc.

Any advice welcomed.

Regards.

I have one kids got me one and tbh it’s good especially for tracking your movements during the day ect it’s interesting to see how many miles
You cover each week you’d be surprised

Is it an SE? Looking online I think the basic SE one would do most of what I need…I assume I don’t need cellular as I have an iPhone and it can just connect via that? Do they connect with Bluetooth or wifi? (As BT seems to wipe a phones battery pretty quickly!)

I coveted one for a good while and eventually managed to strap one on to my wrist though a great deal on this very forum.

My advice comes from only a week of use as I managed to smash mine after about that length of time.

I liked it, it was cool, does cool stuff, and you don't need your phone with you, BUT, it does cost more to not have your phone with you, about £7 per month I recall, I didn't know about that and that did put me off a bit.

Also, I took my smashed version into the Apple shop to ascertain the best course of action to get it back on to my wrist, their advice was buy the better version next time, apparently the stainless versions get better glass then the alloy ones, it can still break though.

Good luck mate, let me know how you get on please.

Expensive pish. Just take your phone.

Save your money for bullets and drink.
To be honest I hope the watch will save the more expensive phone…as I seem to take it in and out of the pooches and I usually have dirty/greasy/bloody hands….

I’m not really a tech tart as I have an iPhone 11 (not the pro or whatever, just the basic one) which I believe is about 3 phones outdated now - However, I will say the apple system is very easy to use and I use it constantly so the watch seems like a natural progression.

I hadn’t worn a watch in years but then got an I watch series 6 a couple of years ago. I did quite like it but for some reason it is no longer taking a full charge so presumably the battery is failing.

I decided against an Apple watch on the basis of robustness and how often it needs re-charging (with the inevitable effect on battery life) ended up going for a garmin in the end which does all I want including the text notification.

Mines the 40 mm one unsure model tbh unsure how it connects I’m a dinosaur in a digital world the kids sorted it.It lasts around two days per charge

I've got one and find it useful if i'm out stalking as I have the phone on silent and tucked safely away somewhere, if a call / message comes in it vibrates and a quick glance can tell me if it can wait or its urgent... As for reading texts or doing anything else on it you'll need good eye sight. Plenty of useful apps if your tecky but I literally use it as mentioned and as a step / fitness tracker.

In work life I'm very conscious in meetings that I get a message, call, or email I check my watch and others in the room maybe thinking id rather be somewhere else, bored etc...

I had that same concern too, then talked myself out of it a little, everyone seems more clued up now as to what that watch can do and what is happening on your wrist, a quick glance and they see it's a smart watch and probably assume that you have just checked a message or whatever.

Maybe it is more acceptable than getting your phone out if you are waiting for an important message?

I’ve had a Series 1, a Series 2 and now a Series 7 (non-cellular). I used to be a watch “tart” with at least 4 analogue kinetic watches on the go at any time but I now religiously just use the Apple 24/7. I find that putting it on charge first thing in the morning whilst I drink that very necessary cup of coffee in bed before getting up is all it needs to keep it fully charged and at a push, it’ll manage 2 days. I don’t take it off throughout the day and that includes showers, in the stomachs of deer etc and it means that my phone stays put in my pocket during the day - its the front end of my phone. I can quickly check any messages coming in, see who is calling me and navigate to the parked car, etc when needed. It doesn’t pull the battery down at all on the tethered iphone so bluntly, it’s doing everything you want it to do for me seamlessly. I do like the heart/pulse monitoring and find the blood oxygen saturation monitoring very useful as I suffer from long COVID breathlessness. It’s also satisfying to see the steps count after a good stalk. Mine is taking all of the abuse it’s given very well and I recommend them to you :thumb:

This basically covers why I would like one…👍🏻

Excellent review! Thank you…

Great info from and and one will be ordered! And the added bonus that Mrs. gixer would like one too so a nice easy crimbo present has been decided! 👍🏻

Do have a look at the offerings from Huawei as well. Much better battery life that most. Not sure about phone call handling, though, mine only shows who is calling and allows you to reject the call. Added bonus, you will have Chinamen watching your every move!

My GF has a Garmin one with the solar charger built into the face, its needs a charge like once every 30 days.
