Best fuel efficient cars or SUV/truck for Stalkers

Following my previous post ,in February 2021i sold my l200 in surch for better mpg. Than bought a new Tiguan 2wd(not good in any means) than bought a kodiaq much better until couple of months ago. My advice is avoid anything from vw group with dsg 7speed gearbox. Before kodiaq was looking for nearly new xc60 with no luck. Hopefully my luck is in place now, two months ago I found something really special, a v90 Cross Country. So far I am over the moon and volvo customer service is probably the best in UK, had punctured tyre fixed within 40 minutes after pressing the magic "on call" button above the dash. Free of charge

I really wish someone would bring out a small pickup in the vein of the old Subaru's.

We spotted a Renault (Dacia) Duster pickup when on holiday in Cape Verde. I asked my local dealer about the chances of it being introduced here and he said it wouldn't sell🤷
Sadly he's right, which is a great pity. They can also get it in olive/sage green paint too., which in UK is a factory option if you order it.
Having said that my 4WD Duster is great. Loads of space in the back with the seats folded.Only faults are the permanent running lights and thin bonnet which doesn't like a heavy foxing rig with bipod being smacked on it, have be gentle.

My pickup truck got rear ended and written off …. We have gone done 6 months before to one motor so I decided rather than another pickup to compromise with wife I wanted something still able to get dogs in , more economical and still able to tow my boat and my trailer …
Skoda scout arrived today …
Early days obviously but big boot … an automatic 4wd system & it’s showing 48mpg so far ….

Is that an Octavia, Karoq or Kodiak Scout?

Hello,

With the rising cost and fuel I'm wondering if there are any clever ideas of cars or SUV's suitable for stalking in places like Scotland and Ireland but with decent MPG etc.

The obvious choice is something like a Toyota Hilux or VW Amarok but the MPG is not great at 28mpg more or less.

Would something like the Toyota Rav4 hybrid be ok for forestry stalking in places like county kerry, ireland?

Basically something reliable with decent MPG and ground clearance/offroad ability suitable for Ireland and Scotland forestry roads etc.

Thanks,
Tom
I use L200 on a 18 reg very economical can get forty plus if take my time

Looks like your key issues in selecting a vehicle are stalking and good MPG, you don't list what else is important to you. For me I would want 4WD to ensure use on off road access roads and forestry tracks. If you are on a budget the comment of a van with a quad bike seems a good idea. I recently drove all the pick ups in the market and the Subaru offerings. I have to admit that MPG was not my key factor, nor was price. I wanted a vehicle that would be comfortable on long journeys but something that would also tow and allow deer to be help in a separate area than inside the vehicle. I liked the Isuzu pick up but felt that it needed just a little more power if I was going to be doing long journeys and some heavy towing. In the end I opted for a Toyota pick up (2.8 Auto), I love the vehicle, it's comfortable on the road, very capable off the road and gets about 31mpg in the first 2,000 miles. I have experience with Subaru Outbacks and think they are a great comfortable and well performing 4wd option. If I was buying a pick up on a budget the Isuzu was great value.

Mine does the same on all terrains

Mud terrain it’s 28-30
I'm on mud terrains and carefully driven on country roads were speed is not really a good idea I'm still getting that sort of milage .but mind I'm taking my time forty max .going to all terrains soon as not really needing my MTs as using a quad these days .but my son is a keeper with a new Hilux and the milage is shocking
