Is this what this country is coming too

You must be lying about where you come from, because you're white. People who come from Rhodesia are black. Where do you really come from?

And so on......

(Of course I don't think you're lying about where you come from, but hopefully you get the idea. This is an irritating little conversation that you're probably fed up with by now. Me too. It must be pretty sickening for someone who gets it all the time).
The black people in Rhodesia are of Bantu origin from West Africa. The split themselves into 'original' Zimbabwean blacks and those brought from Malawi to work on the farms! I have a black Zimbabwean friend who talks with prejudice against those from Malawi! Even though they are all of Bantu origin. They are also split in Shona and Ndebele

I, nor anyone else on here knows what the elderly lady was thinking or implying but however I too could possibly see where the confusion maybe arose.
We, as a very mixed country have many people from many different countries all living on our island, so if the lady I was speaking to was dressed like she was originally from another country, had changed her name to sound more like people from her ancestry and such like then perhaps they should understand someone being a little inquisitive.

I do feel that this lady of colour is making a mountain of a mole hill to further her own ends.
Jimmy.

If I ask you what your nationality is Jimmy, and you tell me British. I don't look at you and then go, but what are you really?

The way someone dresses should not prejudice you to think where they are from anymore. The world as a whole is significant more multicultural than it used to be. Yes back in the 50s we were looking at first generation immigrants, but now we are seeing 2 and even 3rd generation British born and bred "immigrants" who, whilst take pride in their heritage. Are British and from  Britain.

With regards to the name change, I know that certainly some people of afro-Caribbean origin do decide to change or adopt different names. Why? Because their "original names" were "given" (read forced) unto them by their owners. So yes, again she is taking pride in her heritage, reclaiming what the white man has forced upon her family for generations by chosing her own name, and not something that has been passed down from a rather unpleasant part of history by all accounts. But she is still British.

Drives me up the wall to…” where are you from..”
“Scotland”
“But you don’t sound Scottish”
“Well I was born in Northern Ireland”
“But you don’t sound Irish either?”
“Well I did live in America for a bit”
“But you don’t sound American”
“Ffs”
Apparently, I sound Canadian

well I don’t know about you but I’m sick of all this racism BS
I thought this was a forum on stalking
FFS can we just move on

No one made you read this thread, no one made you comment on this thread. So if you're sick of this racism "BS"... Bye.

I too am sick of being told to "**** off back to china you chinky ****". And that I am not really british, or that I can't be from from Edinburgh, or really from Glasgow.

Whaaaat?

Had the wummun that runs the pub in Uppingham across the road from Boots tell me that all Scots were filthy crooked scum. That was what I call racism, but one f_uck I did not give, cos if I looked like her I would be bitter and twisted as well. I thought it was an interesting approach in the days of tripadvisor but there you go.

The irony was that at 2 in the morning it was one of her fellow ladies of Uppingham that hitched her skirt and had a pish in the Boots doorway. :old:
There's a rhyme about Uppingham and Buckingham I recall.

You gotta love another thread filled with semi-literate snowflakes pining for the days when they could use racial slurs in public without raising an eyebrow, huh? 😁

How anyone can fall out over what a old lady said with out malaise to the lady at the dinner is really beyond me
there are many forms of racism , and surely this is not one of them
just my humble opinion

Because not accepting someone's "nationality" being "british" because of her skin colour and how she dresses isn't something something due to age...

You'll be on ignore shortly, but I thought I'd just say. How dare I get a "bloody log" on my shoulder when on a near weekly basis someone would feel the need to scream abuse at me just because I'm a different skin colour. I don't take it out on them, because I am a decent person who turns the other cheek etc as the good lord prescribes. Doesn't mean that its right does it?

If you know someone connected to you who has cancer, and has lost their hair due to the chemo. Imagine if every time they went out, someone yelled abuse at them just because they had cancer.

I'm also sure you have things that you are worried/concerned about. Suspect their as unimportant to me as racism is to you. Get a grip yourself, sure whatever bothers you is also a storm in a teacup.

You’ve got that turned around a bit.
Only some white people come from or live in Rhodesia, the coloured inhabitants and quite a few whites actually live in Zimbabwe.
:tiphat:

Again, white people don't really come from Rhodesia, Zimbabwe or anywhere else down there do they? (At least by the standards of this thread...)
