How close were the trees?Just Googled some footage of the 870, I see what you mean, not the best!
Just found this vid I took on a night with a decent moon, note the time nearly 1am and if that Munty was ginger and had a long tail it would have been more than shootable with no IR,
The trunks and overhanging foliage in the early part of the vid demonstrate how the C50 sensor deals with glare.
I would have thought between 15 and 20yds.How close were the trees?
If the "top end" thermal spotter only showed blobs at 100 yards then it either wasn't focussed or it wasn't a top end spotter.Thank you, I borrowed a top end thermal spotter from a keeper and found that beyond 100 yards it’s just blobs on a screen. He did say that you get used to them after a while and can distinguish what’s what. I like to be sure straight away what I’m shooting at especially if they are sitting, squatting,in cover and all the other stuff other than standing broadside
It was a 2 year old pulsar that cost 2k at the time. The focus was fine, fallow and horses were fine but anything smaller was a challengeIf the "top end" thermal spotter only showed blobs at 100 yards then it either wasn't focussed or it wasn't a top end spotter.
However, he was right in that the more you use them, the easier it becomes to know what you are looking at
Cheers
Bruce

Yes, the common problem with digital and switching between ambient light and infra red is they are different wavelengths, that’s why they go out of focus when the IR is turned off, could have been sharpened up considerably if I’d have bothered. It’s really handy to be able to see your quarry without IR, you can have the shot lined up and flick the IR on at the last minute. What power was that on and could it have been focussed better?
I seem to remember the Kite 4x being a lot brighter with no IR?
This was the one i wanted, thought they were a few weeks away still! Now back in stock.
