Where was all this freezing rain they forecast?
I decided last night no point going out before light with a rifle, I'll take a shotgun.
Then I thought, that old al48 hasn't had a pheasant for a couple of years.
Well this morning I drew a blank pheasant wise but downed a few crows.
There was a problem though. The cold was affecting cycling and I needed to turn the collet around to allow easier cycling, could I undo the magazine nut? Could I heck!
Returning home I got some chores done and spent a couple of hours with my Mrs and then went out for the last couple of hours of light.
But at home I turned the collet around and immediately could tell the action was easier to operate.
I love long recoil autos. So simple and very reliable.
The afternoon produced two nice birds shot with an old auto, with old ammo and by an old grump with a bad foot!
As I hobbled back home facing the western sky I was rewarded with watching woodcock flighting up and down the fields. It was magical.
