Powder choice for .303 British?

N140 again. 39.2 grains with a PPU 170 FMJ bullet. Nice to shoot and accurate out to 300 yards in my SMLE MkIII. Never used it beyond that range yet.

+1 on N140
Though due to lack of availability, I use N135 now. A bit fast, but works well and no pressure signs.
Also useable on smaller cals such as 223 rem.

Question re open sights. Shooting at a small dot with open sights is bloody difficult. Have a read of this and look at Targets they used to use to zero old No 4s and SMLEs.

I have just used an Inverted T made from 3” black Duck tape on a light coloured cardboard to zero open sighted rifles. With a good target to aim at, where you can get a consistent sight picture you can shoot small tight groups.

To be true 303 load you really need to use cordite.

But I think they stopped making this in the 1960’s. As a cadet in the 1980’s there was still plenty of cordite loaded 303 ball in the system and I remember shooting it.
