Drone (flying one not scope)

I started out with a dji mini 2, fantastic little drone, and it doesn't seem to bother the deer to much, you can pick them up fairly cheap second hand on ebay, make sure you get the fly more kit with 3 batteries.
I have since bought the air 2S it is a better drone, but because of the better quality of camera, you dont seem to have the option to zoom in on the picture, this is not a problem when you download the pictures but when flying and looking at you phone screen it limits what you can see, and being bigger and heavier, make more noise and so disturbs the deer more when you are trying to get in closer.
if you can get to a clear point to fly from (not surrounded with buildings) both have more range than you are aloud to use, and you can set them so when they loose signal they will return to where they took off from, the home function is also helpful for when you get disorientated if flying over ground you are not familiar with.

Ahem. My friend says that unless you can simoultaneously pat your head, rub your tummy and stand on one leg whilst peeling a banana don’t do it!! Sodding things have a mind of their own, he says and I he lost one in Perthshire only quite recently. Don’t ask me how I know found out!

So, do you think it is worth having one? I thought it should be quite expensive with several criteria:
1. Quiet
2. Powerful lenses
3. Thermal imaging
4. Light so that you could carry it with yourself along with the rest of the gear
I guess it does not exist

A friend of mine has one. He has a relatively large wood of spruce in Wicklow, the home of Sika in Ireland. Deer management is an important part of the work. He invested in a thermal drone for reconnaissance purposes.
yes it was quite expensive. There’s damn all change out of €5k. However it is absolutely stunning ! Weather permitting he flys it before dawn and dusk to establish where the deer are and then someone takes up position in a high seat in the area.
could you carry it around with you ? Realistically I don’t think so. But it has a good range, certainly we were able to spot deer 2km away.

Is it big drone? Because I really do not want be liable for a drone licence, and, as I know, big ones require a registration and licensing. And I wonder how it can spot deer in a forest, even with thermals - maybe a large group as at least one will be in an open area, but not 2-3 hiding in the bush...

Ok, it’s not pocket sized. Although it was dark when he brought it out to fly. It has its own screen to observe. I could and did spot the deer appear on the screen. As I only have had a short and limited view of it I won’t make any claims.

Wonder where else I could look at drones for hunting. Perhaps hunting shops won't have them... I feel drones are not for hunting but more for spotting large groups of animals

I have a DJI Mavic Air 2, it's an unreal bit of kit! See the attached photo, uploading it has killed some of the resolution but it is so crisp and battery's are not too expensive!

If it's got a camera and not marketed as a toy then you need to register it with the CAA. It used to be if it was smaller than 250g you didn't have to but the rules changed. You also have to keep them within naked eye sight at all times.
