500 L Red Diesel - Best Value Storage

Hopefully someone can suggest the most cost effective means to store 500L deliveries in bulk of red diesel ?

Doesn't need to be fancy or portable, just needs to not leak and to be bunded.

Ideally costing quite a bit less than some stuff shown online

Cheers !

200L drums from a service centre, they give their empty oil drums away.

I had my hilux serviced and on pick up saw a dozen empty drums out the back and asked if they were free. "take as many as you want"

I made a pontoon for the big dam we had. Venus under construction below.

1200 litres can take 1200 kilos!

False economy , Kerosene into the ground from improper storage can and does cost a massive amount of money and could very easily lead to damage to foundations of buildings. Bacterial contamination , water from condensation will also be an issue .
Red is in its last days , delivery and suppliers are getting choosy about what they will or wont deliver into, so check and remember things can change

I use these in built pump, bunded and portable.
Never had any problems with them and have 2nd hand value too

re-use of these isn't allowed here . The seller has to decommission the old vessels

An IBC. I can put you in touch with a man selling good clean ones (touch of their original contents in, not used multiple times).

That has surprised me and seems to be a ridiculous law. Many here also use new/ old oil drums to carry fuel for farm equipment out in paddocks. Its very common to see a 44 gal drum in a ute (with a hand pump installed) getting around the place.

diesel seaping into ground water , rivers and steams, under foundations, etc etc are really very bad things indeed ! Nothing silly about it .

another reason fuel is stored long term in double skinned tanks
I remember Alby Mangels travelling in the Pacific on his yacht in the 70`s that made the World Safari series. He found a supply of 44 gal drums of diesel on an uninhabited island left behind by WW11 US forces "that was perfect" he said and loaded his tanks up.
Obviously there was little air in the drums as diesel does go stale.
