Hi all,

What’s the going rate these days for a beater / picker up?

Many thanks, Dan.

beaters £53 ,tax paid by shoot pickers two dogs £75 plus £8 per dog they pay the tax but get food for dogs. no human meals supplied .<bring your own or starve !> 43 days a year and if you complete at least 35 day and dont shoot on the cock bird days its £100 bonus

20 quid with us
Pint after and sausage and chips most of the days

A duck flight or two and a beaters day

Roost shooting and a bit of deer / vermin

As much wood as they can carry

Also have a pie and pea supper and take most of them in smaller groups to the footy for drinks and a meal

I'm beating twice a week all season with my spaniel at our local estate but I don't do it for the money and I don't know of anyone else who does. We get £10 in an envelope and fed if it's a driven shoot but £0 and not fed if walked up. I must be mad 😵‍💫. However we get two beater's days shooting pheasants at the end of the season and a woodcock day before Xmas. Oh and all the bird's we can take 😋

We get £40 and lunch I think pickers up get more but I never understood why? Maybe if they have 4-5 dogs but if they have a couple it should be the same surely?

Interesting to think when the minimum wage goes up in April will beaters get more? £40 is not £10 an hour….

I get £25 , lunch and as many birds as you want, plus the beaters day with pub dinner and drinks included.
The main benefit for me though, is the sole deer rights outside the game season , on a few thousand acres of prime fallow land.
Also I got two new deer permissions through the people I met at the shoot plus another one is in talks.
