Beaters days just not for beaters?

Is it a beaters day or a keepers day, two very different things. When I was keepering I was given both by the estate, the keepers day was a thank you to myself (and the farm manager) for the season, beaters came as if it was a normal shoot day and were paid, myself and the farm manager would invite our guests, I also put on a beaters day which was purely for the beaters that attended regularly and was invite only, I'd also put on a clean up day if needed

They are all taxed. Supposedly.
I only found out when my accountant phoned me up asking what the £20 was for. It was a fair few years ago. So, £20 to listen to some shitty under keeper mouthing off, plus the fuel to get there and home, then be taxed. Plus we got sent off to a cold barn to eat our sandwiches whilst the guns went off to the posh cabin for a warm meal and a meal.

Um. A days beating, total made after tax and expenses, about a fiver?
Yeah, not that desperate or interested. Or maybe I am now a grumpy old git.
£40 at my local and had a similar experience with a grumpy under keeper mouthing off at me on multiple occasions. Not going back.

Pretty t'eed off when you get to back end of the season to duscover that the shoot had not only sold the 31st but also 5 out of tge 6 available days that week.
Needless to say that when I found this out I called it time for tbe rest of the week

^^^^^^^^ Greedy Mother Fuc k ers^^^^^^^^^^^

My main beating estate is putting on two beaters days, tomorrow & Saturday, tomorrow's is being laid on because a couple of the beaters can't make the Saturday... the single-handed keeper tries to look after us all :tiphat: .
PS, we all look after him as well, he has an excellent team of helpers.

Bad craic that.

And lets be honest they must off had a good season if still enough birds to shoot 6 days a week and selling extra days.

And then theyll wonder why he's struggling for bodies next season.
To be fair might not be the keepers fualt thou.

The "keeper" leases the shoot so he is more a shoot "owner" than a paid keeper.

I was trying to give him the benefit of doubt ;)

Aye taking the p#ss a wee bit if hes had plenty off days already.

But u also have to question the guns buying the day.
Had 130 other shooting days they could off shot and they have to take the only beaters day.
In fact its an arsehole thing to do by the guns.
Selfish pricks.

Always thinking they'll get to shoot more birds for the price. Just makes you wonder what some folk actually get out of shooting.

Over here it’s different, in Northland, beaters meet with the guns for a bacon/ egg breakfast roll, coffee etc. drinks / food at lunchtime at the end of day, we all go back to the shooting hut, usually steak rolls for beaters and guns, drink if you want one, as it’s a new shoot beaters didn’t get paid last year, but there is free firewood, and as many birds as you want.
