Anyone stalk with a full stock / stutzen?

Well this is the latest new gun itch that I’m trying to ride out,(always fancied one).

In my head they’re noisy and look daft with a bipod.

On the other side, they look great, you can detach a bipod on and off,(particularly a Spartan) and you tend to only fire a shot or so on a day on the hill.

What’s the verdict? Keep telling myself it would be a daft purchase but interested in what folk on here think?
Next you’ll be wearing a loden cape and a Bavarian dreispitz!

I had one in 7x57, quite liked the rifle but the cartridge didn't tickle my pickle.
I don't view a bipod as being necessary with correct planning so it never bothered me.
Noise didn't bother me either, again just planned accordingly.

It's non-stutzen replacement also has no mod or bipod, but then I do own a dreispitz 🤣

I've been using a Steyr-Mannlicher Classic in 7mm-08 (so shorter acttion) for a decade. No bipod and no moderator obviously. It handles absolutely beautifully, and the first shot from a cold barrel is always accurate. Admittedly it doesn't like strings of shots much, 3 is about as many as you can get away with. But then I generally don't need anymore than one when stalking. I will hopefully take it out after CWD next month, using the reloads with Fox bullets I've developed quite recently. I say go for it! But it's not a range gun. And Philistines will mutter....
I knew I had a decent picture somewhere.

Will the stock take a bipod though? I use sticks as well but if a qd stud or the Spartan adaptor was fitted , ( the latter would probably suit me more as you can just attach when needed) I’d be tempted.

I was thinking a 6x42 scope
Nope, most lightweight rifles really do not shoot well of bipods. Bipods work well on heavy barreled rifles with free floating stocks. If you want a stutzen or other lightweight rifle you will have to learn to shoot well by holding the forend properly. You can always support your hand, and with a bit of practice you can get very proficient. With my combination gun, or my Rigby, neither of which can take a bipod, I have taken longer shots using a backpack, a rolled up coat, or more usually my binoculars on their side.

Or you just sit and use your knees.

Loosing bipods and other shooting aids takes a leap of faith, and plenty of practice, or reminding yourself of childhood days with an air rifle.

Once saw a Mauser Mod 77 stutzen for sale in 270…have always regretted not buying it. ‘‘Twas a thing of beauty and wonderment 🙄🫣🤣
Yep! If it’s the one sold on Guntrader I left my offer a day too late.

Ignorant question but why is an SMLE not a Stuzen? I had a lovely CZ stuzen .22lr and sold it like an idiot. This thread’s itch is contagious… but I’ll go .308 for flexibility and likelihood of acceptance by my FEO.

Was that the CZ 452 FS? Should have bloody ordered one when they were making them. One in .22 or .17hmr would have scratched the itch just as well to be honest and more practical to plink targets with

Most military bolt actions were full stocked but quite long. Even the SMLE - short model lee enfield is still a long and reasonably heavy rifle.

Stutzens by contrast are short and lightweight, but with full length wood stock so you can hold / support them easily.

Here is a further explanation
