End of the 17wsm in the UK?

Cal. .17, a concept I never understood. .22 is as small as it needs to be.
I see more people having problems with micro calibers ((including .22) than not.

A .224 CF is where it starts if one wants to shoot at 100m or beyond. Anything smaller is play stuff and not worth the bother. Proof? This forum!

.17hornet is very proficient past 100m.

Accuracy I wouldn't complain about though. I had a Marlin 25M in a camo stock that I bedded, added a Wildcat mod. It hated alot of ammunition. I was down to three types, a 40gr CCi hp i believe, an offering by sellier and bellot that I think were fmj in 30gr perhaps? And the Hornady NTX 25grain. The NTX gave a 20 pence group which i found staggering for a wmr. Just a shame about the terminal effects.
The 40g remmy worked best in mine, closely followed by the ntx in terms of accuracy. I ended up coming away from the remmy because they had a nasty habit of giving the dreaded zing after they passed through a rabbit

I take it at that range that like a Javelin Anti Tank Missile the 22 is in “ Top Attack” mode by then
Very much so 😂 strelok gives 70.3moa although I tend to use the ret and holdover so I don't loose where I am 🤦
258 inches is what it's giving currently, that's using CCI small game, through my rifle last time I chronod it (few weeks ago with temp change) at 1051fps

I use my 17 WSM solely for night vision. It's a Bmag heavy stainless in Boyds thumbhole stock. It is ridiculously accurate and hits much harder than the HMR. The bolt is truly awful and the magazine looks like it was made for a toy gun. They both work though. Great calibre.

You can choose not to believe it, it doesn't bother me in the slightest 😂 I spent many a summer evening taking rabbits. You become quite proficient with trigger time believe it or not.

Maybe just because you can't, doesn't mean people can?

Wind your neck in 😘
You have me beat. My PB with .22LR using Eley subs is 172yards but I’m sort of limited by backstop consideration.

Perhaps some on here shouldn’t judge others by their own low standards 😉 after all with the right kit it’s very doable.

I also have a friend with a Savage B-mag, I got it for him at auction, new for a very good price about 3 years ago. He was also lucky enough to buy alot of what Chris Potters had in stock of the ammunition at the time and he treats it more like a centrefire, so the rounds will last.

I don't often have contact from Edgars, as I don't hold an account.. however same said person who purchased the Savage B-mag was the person to get this information from Edgars, as he works for CH Westons in Brighton. I don't recall a specific reason but my guess would be popularity..

Another example of something being no longer imported (or I believe discontinued in this instance) is the 25gr NTX by Hornady for the .22WMR. That was, as far as I know, the only available lead alternative available for it? I however speak from personal experience of that 22wmr NTX bullet, when I say that they have tempremental terminal effects.. I head shot a rabbit at 50 yards, to merely find it blind in one eye. I shot a rabbit in the chest front on at 130 yards, only find the whole bullet untouched in the skin of the stomach fur. Some years ago now.

I digress anyway! I was also very tempted at the time to buy a 17 wmsr but I'm glad that I didn't. My suggestion to those who own one, is perhaps up your ammunition limit and buy what you can from who has it left and make the most of the rifles you own.

I completely agree that it's a shame that there weren't many offers of those manufacturering rifles in this chambering and that it may have meant a more popular cartridge in this country, if so. I don't believe Savage rifles are generally very popular here generally? When compared to other manufacturers.
CCI do a non toxic WMR load from memory

It was a nice cartridge to shoot and effective, just a shame, off the top of my head, only Savage and Ruger produced rifles. The Savage offering a college had was complete garbage. Pity Tikka or CZ didn’t adopt it.

No, you haven't missed a fad - because it never got near the level of popularity to become a fad
it will just join that long, long list of cartridges that arose from a perceived itch that not enough people wanted to scratch

Cheers

Bruce
There was me, in me cave with the good old 270 wondering if I’ve missed something?😂😂 I

It’s the 6.6 Creedmoor of rim fires
