Stalking boots ??

I once had a pair of goretex lined surplus army boots that lasted about 5 years - including a few trips into the sea! Waterproof almost to the top of the boot and very supportive.

Best £40 on footwear I think I ever spent and were really comfy having already been broken in.

I remember they came with a load of sand still in them when I got them!
 
One really can't specify what boots will be best for you. It all depends on the terrain you usually traverse, how soggy it might be, how far your feet might sink, are you fording the odd stream, how hard they'll get used (not often and cheaper ones might last a good while, very often and cheaper ones will be a false saving) and what you are prepared to pay for them.

But that apart, there's a good few threads on here about what boots are the best. You'll do well to read them and thus become knowledgeable about such issues. You'll be asking what calibre or something next....

I have a pair Meindl Island boots some 10 years old coming to the end of their days. I bought a pair of Zamberlan GTX last autumn. So far so good, no complaints. From the start they were comfortable to wear, 100% waterproof and the grip from the soles is remarkable.
 
Personal choice but I would avoid Harkila read bad reviews and disappointed experiences. Again the Le Chemue have had similar reviews and topics.

Pick a company that only makes boots. I bought some surplus Altburgs because they were cheap. I get heel lift even when laced up correctly.

My favourite boots are a pair of regatta cheapo things I bought in an emergency at a camping shop in Rothbury when a pair of La Crosse boots let me down on a stalking trip. They fit me like old slippers from the off and took no breaking in. It was all they had in stock and even though aren’t an elite brand do the job at hand.

As such I would do as recommended by several people on here. Try some different makes on and see what suits your foot shape.
 
I was on a course a while ago, and the professionals on the course recommended Dedito. I'm very pleased with them so far. Once my spare pair of Meindls dies, that will be the last Meindls that I buy as their quality has gone through the floor.

Another vote for Meindl, read some negative comments but between my other half and I we have 6 pairs no issues great boots especially the Dovre Extreme

Have you had a look at Altbergs? Depending where you are their factory shop is worth a visit for a fitting and a look at the different boots that have in.
 
Thanks all for the recommendations/ who to avoid tried a couple on etc and finally decided on the lowa Hunter gtx,
always good to see what peoples reviews are.

^^^ this. Mountain boots bar far a better choice. Solomon & scarpa also really good. Never liked “hunting” boots too bloody heavy for my liking.
