Has anyone been following this? Been looking at various articles online. It's quite difficult reading. Think things will get stricter afterwards, rightly so.

I haven't been following it but why should there be a change in legislation when it is clearly a failure of the administering authority? Perhaps a corporate manslaughter charge against the then chief constable of D&C would get licensing departments to sharpen their act up?

Has corporate manslaughter been tried on America? It would certainly make the police pay attention.

Well I mean stricter as in more scrutiny with medical records, should not affect most people assuming they have clean bills of physical and mental health.

Agreed it's likely there will be hefty charges for someone senior within the department. Does seem evident there were some big failures with process.

Stricter for who?
Stricter for all regarding medicals and Drs for declared or identified mental issues. Basically where known or found, much more investigation before decisions are made with issuing FAC.

Essentially what should have been done anyway.

True, it's a gross failure for sure.

Exactly. So no need for anything to be made stricter. Just stick to existing guidelines.
I couldn't agree more, but sadly it never seems to be like that. Already down here things have tightened up noticeably. I understand D&C are under investigation internally so understandably they are carrying out everything to the letter of the law, which isn't making an already problematic situation worse.

indeed certainly more scrutiny required in the police recruitment process if recent events are anything to go by.

Reads like a total cluster f**k of a set up.
Although I did read the statement from the feo who was an ex marine and ex copper who had been an feo or 4 or 5 years, complaining that he hadn’t been trained to deal with issues like DV with respect to firearm legislation!

Seriously? Does he not have a mouth to ask the question or the brain power to question whether someone who has been charged with assault should have a firearm?
Did all of his military and police training not sink in regarding the law and safe use of firearms?

I know they are understaffed, but if in doubt don’t! It’s a simple as that. Far better to have an irate gun owner complaining because their variation has taken an extra month than to have 5 ppl killed at the hands of some dickless wonder.

Not quite sure what physical health has to do with anything, many disabled and unwell people shoot. That is one of the good points about shooting. It is accessible to all

Reading the court reports, the uncle said he was using boar shot, whatever that is and he must have bought it online because a gun shop would have queried him buying it. The blind leading the blind.
I feel sorry for the poor FEO who was offered no training and then expected to make the correct decisions
