Any pipe smokers on here?

So what tobaccos are people smoking?

I've settled in four now. Far and away my favourite is Gawith's coffee and caramel. Produces masses of soft, warm, sweet smoke. Tastes and smell fabulous and goes - unsurprisingly - perfectly with a cup of coffee.

Second is probably Gawith's Kentucky Nougat. Sweet, aromatic and long burning with a very fine ash. I've tried several brands of these fruity, top-dressed tobaccos and they tend to taste artificial. This one doesn't. It's a lovely smoke and silky smooth.

Still smoking Exclusive black cherry in the evenings. Lovely natural black cherry flavour with a decent bit of strength. Great in a large, long-smoking pipe when the fire's lit.

And lately I've discovered Gawith's rich dark spring dew. Typical Kendal tobacco with grassy hay-like flavours. There's a distinct note of geranium when first lit, which I do find a bit odd, but as it smokes it becomes more and more complex and much richer and it's exceptionally smooth. Really nice tobacco at work and out of doors.

Ive not used mine much lately but it was Solani Plum, Petersons Connoisseurs Choice and Nutty Cut.

Its not highly rated but I find Nutty Cut extremely pleasant, Macadamia Nuts, Coconut and Rum flavour.

It's now called Special Cut I believe.

I have too many to list (and smoke).

My go-to has always been Samuel Gawith's "Grousemoor", closely followed by their "Bothy Flake".

I would echo Morkai's Petersons "Connoisseurs Choice" and would throw in their "Early Morning Pipe" and "Nightcap" also (both formerly Dunhill blends).

I think I have the Charatan versions of those.

I was given 30 packets of St Bruno early in 2020 by a friend who had been advised by his dentist to give up pipe-smoking lest his teeth fall out!
I dug out a vintage Robb Cherrywood and have subsequently enjoyed the occasional bowl.

I've been meaning to try Grousemoor. I've tried a few Rattrays and Charatan tinned blends but they all seem to smoke very hot, which is why I tend to stick with Gawith's loose.

I did like Charatan's Victorian blend. Nice flavour but again quite dry and hot.

I intend to try a few Kendal plugs.

I wish you guys would stop going on about these great sounding pipe tobaccos. (And some of them really do sound like a really great smoke) I am really getting tempted to get my pipe out again but I know that would be a huge mistake - But I am getting really tempted you rotten lot!;)
I must stop reading this thread whenever a new post is put on it!

I don't know what it is about Grousemoor but I have just never been able to move away from it. I think it may be that in my mind it instantly transports me to a warm hillside or lazy salmon pool. It is my quintessential outdoor tobacco.

Bothy Flake is for exactly that. Sitting in front of the fire with a dram in hand.

Coincidentally, Grousemoor is also available as plug...... :stir:

It was usually whatever shop made blend I liked the smell off
But I’ve always kept some Dunhill navy rolls about.
Now Peterson navy rolls.
Delicious
Always cut or flake
Plug is a ballache hahaha

I used to enjoy unrubbed many years ago when St Bruno was available

I just tried Errinmore, too hot and a bit like smoking fags. So back to black cherry again. Sorry Frenchy but if you just take one smoke in the evening that's not too bad.😃

I know exactly what you mean about an "outdoor" tobacco. For now, mine is Gawith's Kendal Honeydew. I like how you can smoke it outside in the wind and because it smokes soft it doesn't flare or spark and the aftertaste of the dottle when the pipe's long gone out but is still clamped in your teeth stays earthy and pleasant.

I will definitely be trying the Grousemoor though. And I'm building up a pleasing supply of baccie tins for storing stuff in my workshop when I move to my new house. A workshop is not a workshop unless it contains a well ordered collection of baccie tins full of useful thingies.

I'm not finding the pipe addictive. I quit fags 17 years ago and I'd grew to hate the things and feared I'd never be rid of them so I understand Frenchies worries. But to me smoking cigarettes was an addiction and the pipe is a hobby (albeit and expensive one..).
If I runout of pipe baccy I'm disappointed rather than climbing the curtains, rather like opening the fridge in the morning to find there's no milk and you can't have a cup of coffee. If I set off for work and realise I've left my pipe behind, I wouldn't feel the need to turn back for it. In my fag smoking days, I'd have gone however far out of my way it took to buy some baccie and papers. If I go out for the evening, I don't take my pipe with me and I have no desire to sneak outside for a puff. It'll wait till I get home. That is very different to cigarettes.

I think the seventeen years tobacco free is crucial though. I don't inhale now and have no temptation to do so. I just enjoy the sensation and flavour. If I'd tried a to quit fags by switching to a pipe back in the day, I'd just have inhaled the pipe smoke and been even worse off.

I know what you mean and Black Cherry was always my favourite. But I really can't take that chance no matter how much I would love to - I simply can not afford the chance of getting "hooked" again because of my health situation!

I know my friend, I fortunately can take or leave the pipe but just find some peace in an evening smoke. Stay safe and keep your health rather than chance it. Won't talk about it or tempt you anymore.😇

Hay mate, it's not a problem as I am able to resist the temptation, but hell no-one can realise just how much I would enjoy a fill of "Cavendish Black Cherry Exclusive" in my little old Falcon, just for old times sake! ;)
In the mean time I will have to be satisfied with my e-cig which I use as a "prop" since I quit smoking!

I used to use one of them to start with but gave that up, puffed nothing for five years. However at 80 I decided to do the unmentionable again of an evening or times of stress.😄
