NEC Shooting Show

Decided to go, there now.
Met my local firearms chap, had char about pushing my variation through and getting some land cleared. Very helpful. So in that sense money well spent.

Show itself ? For me the Stalking Show will be better.

No real bargains, was looking for a small knife to get round small deer arses.
Hultafors detail knife 👍

Casstrom Safari in a kydex sheath.

I went today.
For me it was good value. As I was going passed anyway and won a pair of tickets.

Some interesting stands there. If you wanted to get hands on with a Blaser R8 (before getting hands on with the price of them), or a few other makes, you would be happy.
A lot of optics manufactyrers and suppiers. So probably a good day out if you are in the market for glass or germainium (I think that is what the lenses are made from on thermals?)
A few clay trap makers, clothing outlets and a smattering of distilleries.
There were a few tat stalls, but not too many.

I spent most of my time looking through thermal scopes. Just wish I could afford/justify the cost of one.

Just left, main reason for travelling was to hopefully get variation sorted with Surrey/Sussex. Anyone else with this idea then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed as they didn't end up making it.

Nice to look through some thermal and chat to Ryan from Highland Outdoors on the new MDT chassis.

Saw the usual faces, some that need to be retired like Terry Doe.

Plenty of room to walk around as the volume of stands is less than last year...sad to see the show dwindling in numbers

I must have gone to a different NEC than the people above. It’s the same as last year, and believe me that’s not a good thing. Some stands are half the size they were last year due to stand costs. Hardly any reloading stalls and even less amo….
This was deffo my last attempt to the NEC
That would be my only reason for attending.. a good opportunity to replenish stocks, but I suspect as I’ve had some 6.5mm bullets on back order for over a year, the shortage is felt by RFD’s too, who simply can’t get stock shipped to the UK via the wholesalers.

It would be interesting to hear whether primers are in stock and limitations are being imposed on purchase quantities…

I’ve been in the past, many times, but as people have said, £25 to walk around a show does appear steep, as there aren’t the deals to be had as on previous years…

I was on a stand at the Game fair and i thought the whole weekend was spoilt by bad planning and people from the travelling community, I will never go there again.
I stopped going to the Game Fair, mainly because of the traffic and ridiculous entry fees. There was a time when you could find bargains at the GF but when offset against the entry fee no longer so. I am afraid that countryside fairs have become an industry, with the stall holders also having to pay inflated prices; yes I am becoming old and miserable!

It’s £25 but includes the normal £16.95 car parking fee at the NEC.

Its good if you want to handle and look through all the latest optics and NV and compare them side by side.

All the big names are there Swaro, Zeiss, Pulsar, HIKMicro, InfiRay, ATN, Pard, Blaser, Mauser, Sauer, Browning, Hawke, Highland Outdoors, Scott Country, Edgar Brothers.

Some show discounts 10% or 12.5% on new gear. No reloading components.

Foods expensive but then it’s the NEC. £30 for two bacon and cheeseburgers, one portion of fries and two bottles of water.

I particularly liked the new Hawke LRF binos, very good quality at a reasonable price.

Highlight of the day was chatting to a guy from NZ over lunch about everything from clay pigeon shooting, to duck hunting to tahr and wallaby hunting in NZ. Often it’s the people you meet that make these things interesting.

I have heard that part of the issue is that the NEC does not really want any shooting stuff there but are tied in to a contract hence price rises. Just a rumour so how true I know not.

game fairs and the like were given the death knell by the internet. They used to be good for bargains as they had a larger audience and you could turn your stock over quickly. Now most stuff is sold over the web with everyone competing on price all the time… there is no real profit for a lot of the main dealers. I pay the money or go in free thanks to BASC at the game fair just to have the chance to look at the stuff my local shop does not stock.

I am not surprised that not much ammo or reloading…. Have you tried to buy powder or primers recently?

I think this might be another conspiracy theory, I think the NEC are happy to take anyone’s money and as much of it as they possibly can.

I set off earlier today. Just got past Orrel going South on the M6 and my little lad brought his breakfast back up! Mission aborted. Just spent 2 hours cleaning the car. I will have to wait for the Harrogate show, but if that's as bad as last year ( No Zeiss, no Swarovski, very little ammo for sale) I'll give that a miss too.
