My local MP is Henry Smith unfortunately!
I wrote to him before and got a reply that basically said “I don't care what you say scumbag, stick your letter up your a***”
But not in them words.

Thats fair comment - may i suggest you write to his opposition ?

Trophy hunting is not public, friendly, public friendly is not vote, friendly.

I think that may be my next step. I tried to ask him about it when he opened a local builder’s merchant i was visiting but he just stuttered and scurried off.

But again we may be ****ing in the wind but gotta try I suppose.
 
May well be worth again another complaint to the BBC regarding Packham rallying his troops

I am doing so - and with 20 thousand or whatever on here - this one website - change is within our grasp

I’ve got loads of positivity, I just don’t support campaigns have no chance in winning, it’s called pick your battles!

You will never win the trophy, hunting battle, ever!

point blank it’s not public friendly. Therefore, it is not vote friendly and until it is you will lose so there is no point in fighting it. end of subject, complete waste of time and effort.

Find other shooting related campaigns to support, ones where you actually have a chance of winning!

Because the public dont understand - because people like you dont take the time to explain to them



Just point out to your MP the fact that any vote to ban is an attack on another countries management technique - with our own biodiversity at such low levels any interference from us is pure and simply ridiculous

Trophy hunting is dead, you were talking to a bloke used to take people stalking for trophies!

I have seen the decline of interest in trophy stalking, the ball ache of getting trophies out of the UK/into the UK from Africa and other countries, until you have experienced that then really all you are doing is like I said, ****ing in the wind on getting wet legs!

All you are doing is trying to cling on to the early 1900s, and the image of the Great White Hunter, that’s all it is an image image and to be honest that is best forgotten, if Species management is go forward in a positive light

We all need to stand up for our sport and actually write to all our MPs, the politicians only care about votes so by contacting them about issues like unnecessary waste of resources on changing perfectly adequate gun laws
reminds them they can lose our votes.
 
Their proposal won’t solve their perceived problem. If people want to hunt these animals they will regardless of whether you can import the trophy. Prohibiting would also encourage illegal trafficking from these corrupt countries for those who really want to keep a trophy.

What it appears to do, is also ban trophies of cull animals. Beasts which will enter the food chain regardless but preventing the hunter importing the trophy. Seems illogical to me. If the beast if getting culled anyway, why prohibit the trophy?

It would be more reasonable to have alignment with allied countries. For example tags awarded for cull animals are granted an import licence for the trophy; certainly for some, let’s say not “big 5” species

I’m generally impartial on trophy hunting solely for trophy. If conservation is managed appropriately then I don’t see a problem

We will never win if we don't fight, field sports and shooting are minority interests.

Unless we explain them to the public and our MPs we won't save what we have left.

If anyone wishes to write to their MP on this issue, perhaps ask them to raise your query and concern on your behalf with the Minister and to forward the reply they get from the Minister to you. You could also ask to meet your MP to discuss the matter given your interest in deer management.

You could explain that this private members bill is fundamentally flawed and unnecessary given that imports (and exports) are already regulated under existing rules designed to ensure that international trade in animals and plants does not threaten their survival in the wild. Moreover, where permits are given to import hunting trophies into the UK it is precisely because they have been certified as having been harvested sustainably.

You could query the government's support for the Bill and ask why they cannot just come up with a list of species and their country of residence where trophy hunting is having a negative impact and target that (they won't be able to come up with any evidence because there is none).

You could suggest that rather than giving the Bill any more Parliamentary time the government could continue to support the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, a grant scheme that provides support to projects around the world that are tackling the illegal wildlife trade and the devastating consequences of poaching.
 
Management is ok, trophy hunting isn’t really. Trophy hunters have no place in hunting in my view, it has nothing to do with hunting apart from killing for wall space fillers.

The difficulty here is that trophy hunting pays for ‘management’ and protecting against poachers in African countries, that should not be the case, but is. What is needed are subsidies in these regions to replace the income generated from trophy hunters
