What are the bad points about the Blaser R8?

Me too, love it  will be buried with it :p

So back to the original question, whats wrong with the R8, answer, nothing except its not a K95 😍
I couldn’t get along with mine, the trigger pull was appalling and unadjustable, it was too light, it kicked like an angry mule and it was very difficult to shoot accurately.
It did look very cool though…

I’ve seen a Parker Hale do 1000 yds and I have also seen a Blaser do 2” at best at 100, then my rust bucket, Ruger stuck a 5 shot group inside of the Blaser group, then told my mate who owned the gun “ that was £3K wasted wasn’t it?” 😂😂😂😂
I know what you mean but most PH rifles I have seen shot are in the 1-2 MOA or worse category at 100. Acceptable but not great at longer ranges. Obviously there are exceptions which are great when they occur but are often few and far between.

I went with a 7x57R as a traditional kipplauf so soft recoil with a hogs back but they do different stocks now to accommodate the heavy recoil calibers, worth looking at?

I had one that shot really ŵell. The only thing was cycling the bolt was like stirring a bowl of soup

Mine was 7x65R, so was always going to be thumpy.
I couldn’t live with the combination of overly light trigger that couldn’t be user adjusted, recoil and light weight which made it difficult to shoot well consistently.

6.5x55 for 11years and 6.5 CM for 4 years. Make sure the magazine is firmly pushed in, I have had it fall out of one twice, luckily fell at my feet. Twist rate is marginal for copper rounds, seems to be more of an issue in the CM. Both shoot lead rounds very well.
The magazine insert is too short in the CM limiting load length with longer projectiles.
I get the Blaser click occasionally with the sweed
Return to zero is excellent with both and the finish seems to be holding up
I really like the safety system and the compact length relative to barrel. I prefer the non thumb hole stock.
In order to repeat the purchases Blaser would need to up date twist rates for me but the are totally uncommunicative on the subject so I guess its a change to something else before I need barrels

Michael Rainback will make you a custom barrel for your Blaser using a Bartlein blank. You can specify profile, length and twist rate and it will work out cheaper than a Blaser factory equivalent. I have one in 6CR and one on the way in 7PRC.

Where is Michael based and does he have a website?

I have a lightweight 7x65r combination gun. Once I stock lengthened to fit it is a very comfortable rifle to shoot. Trigger is firm, so you can get proper good tight grip. The trigger can be set, but I do find it impossible to have a firm grip yet also control a light trigger.

And I use a 140gn bullet which makes recoil a non-issue. 173gn H Mantles or ID Classics loaded by RWS do give a good thump at both ends.

Ok so I’m looking for thoughts from people who have actually used the R8 (particularly the professional success with synthetic thumbhole) in real life deer stalking situations. I’m not interested in those who handled one once and loved or hated them or whose mate had one but the price caused his wife to divorce him!
What I’m really after is what people like and dislike about the R8 when stalking, ergonomics, balance, any problems with component failure, holding zero etc etc.
Thanks

I’ve one with various barrels and it’s the best thing I’ve bought I love every bit of it.The dreaded blaser click is only a new owner thing.Your more than welcome to have a play with mine in various calibres I swap barrels and scopes regularly and never worry about zero ect they are mega you won’t be disappointed.

Many thanks, I’ll probably take you up on that. I’m sure our paths will cross at one of the BDS shoots …
