Breathable is always high maintenance and always fails!…..Guy Cotton..100% waterproof but non breathable….I just put up with it!….have a jacket and trousers…could stand under a shower for an hour and still be dry underneath!

love reading this and as a fan of harkila makes interesting reading.....did you all know you can join harkila pro hunter society for free and register any purchase to get a 5 year warranty on any product, what other brands back their products like this!!!! the reason many people are let down by waterproof membranes is they do not know how to care for it, it needs washing to keep it breathable and waterproof, the dwr outer coating needs re applying.....we all spend 100's if not 1000's on our kit so why not take the time to invest into caring for it. This applies to all brands of waterproof membraned trousers.

Well put Matt, people moan about Harkila , but ive had them for years, washed as you've said and never been let down.
Ive also bought some Shooterking trousers , as the Harkilas are a little tight less chips i think anyway the Harkilas feel much nicer and a much better fit, especially the Pro X series.

I was told salt in body sweat over time kills a Goretex membrane as salt solution is the method used to create "eat" the tiny permeation breathing holes during its manufacture.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Turns out there's lots of great kit.....who knew . I've been thinking about a pair of Fortis and I think the shooterking are made of Fortis material. Anyone got a testimonial?

Fjallraven Vidda Pro Ventilated are great. Wax the low legs and knees with the greenland wax. You literally apply wax to areas you want and not to areas where you want ventilation.
