Cast nets in the UK?

Are they deployed or illegal? I used a cast net just about every day in Qld and they are great to catch prawns and fish with.

It takes a lot of skill. You see the guys using them when you cross 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

I've seen them, once, for sale in France. Never in the UK but that doesn't mean that they are illegal just that the species we get here aren't really catchable with such gear. Or as DUNWATER says they are not really dependably useful enough for our fish.

I bought one back from South Africa where I used it to catch a few fish. When I got back being the enterprising youth I was decided that the local pits behind my house which were the farmer let me fish in would be a good source of roach which I planned to sell as dead bait.

Needless to say after two casts and one very chewed up net from the twigs I sold my three roach for 50p and retired on my dreams with a quarter of midget gems 😂😂😂

Can't call them midget gems now. They are mini-gems. Lol

When I first bought mine I had no idea and thus it was a useless bit of gear. . I was shopping in the local tackle shop, mentioned the net casting and the owner took me out to the carpark with a net and showed me the most simple of ways. 99% of casts after that were perfect. We had a piling barge and the net was used whenever there was time.

rippin catch that one Andy.

A mate Keith and I were fishing The Coomera R Qld one day and I gave my net a shot, well it snagged or so I thought lol. It had nine big sea mullet in it, each fish maybe 20"`s long.
