So I’ve got got around to booking my dsc1 course with my son, we are doing it with BASC, to be held in Norfolk in August.
what advice/help can you share with us, and what’s everyone’s view or experience of the course when they have done it?,
thank you .

Been over 20 years since I did mine, but I'd still recommend going there with the idea of enjoying it!

Expect to meet a bunch of like-minded folk, but also to learn a lot about deer, deer law and stalking.

Spend some time beforehand using the online tools that will help you study and practice for the multiple choice test, but also spend some time (if you can) practicing the shooting test.

Pre-read.

l started a month before the course, and gave it 30 minutes per day for three weeks, then an hour per day for the last week. lt’ll all be discussed over the course, but if you think you can turn up “cold” and succeed, you’re a better man than me.

Also remember that Mother Nature gave us all two ears, but only one mouth. That was a big hint from her…

;)

Have fun learning.

Thanks , I'm a big believer in if you fail to prepare you prepare to fail! So I'm definitely going to get my head down . Thanks again

There used to be an online multiple choice test you could pay to do per month. Read up and do this. It isn’t the walk in the park some think.
Oh, if you shoot your neighbours target, however accurately, you will have to do that bit again…

I used BDS training, and DSCtraining.org

BDS training was better for actually learning, DSCtraining mock tests were better.

I'd say sign up to BDS and read, read, read. I did this every night or spare hour for a month or so. Then, a week before, sign up to DSCtraining and do the mock tests.

Get as large a batch of ammo and you can, then no worrying about change of impact.

It's bizzare to see people attend still worried about their zeroing and having no confidence.
Tbh the target is massive, as long as you shoot your own one I can’t understand how people fail other than nerves possibly. They give you a couple of sighters first too (or they did when I did it ten or so years ago) and two or three opportunities to get it right.

Got a roasting for having a non-modded rifle but my trusty £200 husqvarna did the job.
The guy with a brand new blazer in some fancy calibre failed…

The only things people failed on when I went last year was the shooting. The paper tests are a piece of p#ss.

It's very easy, in the way that even if you didnt know what a deer looked like and you did the 2 day course, you'd pass. So if you have any prior knowledge about the animal youll be fine.

People revising 3 months beforehand are mad.

I did this as a noob to deer stalking.

Its the type of course where they emphasise what you should listen to, like those courses you do at work.

"1750ft/lbs, remember this number"
"2450fps in Scotland, remember this number"
