Meindl Dovre glue failure & rubbish service!!!

It’s simply a compound that is not fit for purpose and breaks down (crumbles) from within. No application on the surface of these soles will safe them. There intended to repel fluids rather than absorb.

I’m happy to spend £50 on a new sole if that’s what Bramwell International suggests and are able to fit. There’s many year’s of life left in the uppers.

Foooooking spoke too soon!

These seldom get used as too much boot for Sevenoaks but they keep me warm during lambing protection forays as per this morning. Fine when I put them on at 4AM and now useless at Noon!

I feel a letter to Meindl taking form as I write.

K - afraid that is typical of that type of sole on a Meindl boot. If you get them resolved then go for this type, I have a pair of Mendls that are ancient & still going strong 👍

Well here you have their position and justification for continuing to use soles that don’t like being stored in a cupboard:

Further to your email which has been forward to us by Meindl in Germany

I'm sorry you have found this problem with your Meindl boots.

Over a number of years, if the boots are not used regularly, or stored for some time particularly away from air and light, the PU of the midsole of this type of sole can degrade and eventually disintegrate as you have experienced. Rather in the way rubber will perish after a time.

This is not due to a defect in manufacturing but rather to the passage of time. PU does however have very valuable shock absorbing properties & is light in weight which means it is used widely by sole manufacturers & therefore by many boot manufacturers. This style has not been made for around 20 years

If the uppers of the boots are still in good condition, flexible and not cracked in any way they could still be resoled.

We would recommend contacting LSR who would be able to do this for you.

So boots fall apart through not being worn enough! I have heard it all now - sounds like a Monty Python sketch….

"If those soles weren't nailed to the uppers..."

Just received the quotation from LSR:
Resole is £90 per pair and if requiring re-randing an additional £25 per pair.

Basically half purchase price.

If it's any consolation, LSR are very good at what they do.

I got refunded on a pair of Harkila boots for a manufacturing defect* and had them resoled at LSR, they have performed perfectly since.

*For anyone interested; a pair of Harkila Dog Keeper 10". They are a lightweight boot and hands down the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever owned. The sole of these boots had a neoprene type material built through it which perished over time and allowed water to ingress the boot from below. Contacted Harkila with a few photos, got a full refund - bearing in mind it was after nearly two full seasons of work! The boot was had been discontinued by this point so they couldn't even give me a new pair, thankfully. Sent to LSR for a resole, bobs your uncle - better than new.

Bought LaCrosse Gamefinder II around fifteen years ago, one of most comfortable I’ve had, goretex eventually gave up after around six years and a resole, still going strong but resigned to summer boots now not cold and wet, it’s either Grubbs or Irish Setters that are warm as toast but a tad heavy

my harkila boots didn't do a full year same issues as this soles falling to bits ! I never buy rubbish twice and i include the whole brand because the bosses and buyers are going to be the same and its of their doing

Bought a pair of Meindl boots in February last year and within a couple of months the rubber started to separate, due to needing them I didn’t get round to sending them back till January this year.
They were bought from Bushwear and I assumed I get them back repaired and as I had bought some alternate boots in the meantime how long it took wasn’t an issue, 7 days after returning them a brand new pair landed on my doorstep, so great service from Bushwear and the new ones got hammered on the end of the CWD season and also been wearing them most days and no sign of the glue issue yet.
