Dog Wormers

My dog throws up most of the worming stuff I've tried in the past and have had to use some horrible liquid stuff she tries to eat around!

However I recently tried Drontal Dog Tasty Bones and she seems to get on fine with them.

Apparently "Kills all types of intestinal worms commonly found in UK dogs – including roundworms, whipworms, hookworms and tapeworms" so should do the trick and I also use Advocate for fleas etc.. as that covers a huge range of other nasties as well.

The reason behind the question was if anyones dogs have had adverse reactions to any of the treatments

Very few true adverse reactions. Drontal often used to make dogs sick, but less so in the new format. Your worming depends on your dog's habits. If an adult and fed on kibble or canned, there's probaby no need, unless you are in a high lungworm area. IF it's an active hunter and you have kids, then 3 monthly dosing with panacur or any of the good vet based wormers. Don't buy the cheap crap in the supermarket

Drontal gives one of my dogs severe stomach cramps, has done since she was a puppy and we started her on Drontal puppy suspension. A vet suggested Panacur as we had tries other wormers that had the same effect. Panacur granules mixed into minced tripe and we have never looked back, both dogs really easy to worm now and no adverse reactions.

I ran out of dog food one evening and cooked up some crushed barley with milk and bovril/marmite(can't remember which). The next morning the floor had roundworms all over the place. I think it was the roughage/fibre that did it, a bit like foxes pass roundworms in late summer along with plum stones.

Both GSP's are on Milbemax, they'll take them straight from my hand without hesitation and I believe they're good for every form of worm going including heartworm.

Panacur liquid, bit messy, but not overly expensive and can get it from my feed merchants, will see if I can get the granules next time 👍

Bit late - 2 dogs on milbemax, it covers lungworm as well as others. One hates any meds and we have to poke the tab down. The teckel thinks it's a treat. No seen side effects. Vet prescription only.

Panacur liquid. Hard to overdose.
Does the job and no effect on the dog.
Not expensive and over the counter at many farm suppliers.

My Teckel has a couple of Milbevet every three months along with Bravetco for ticks.
Used to use the stuff a pal gave his hounds years ago, they painted the walls with that let alone the floors of the kennels.

Is the panacur liquid that people are talking about the same stuff you might give to pigs and poultry…asking for a friend 🙄

It's all Fenbendazole. No way any professional is going to tell you to use a product which isn't licensed on dogs, on dogs. I have sheep wormers on the shelf too, but I use dog wormers for my dogs. £130 replacement for a dead ewe, £1000+ for a dead dog. Your call at the end of the day but I keep my rifles, boots and gear in good nick and that includes my dogs.
