Take a look at the Bavarian Mountain Hound Society of GB, they meet up once a month, very friendly group catering for all breeds and all levels of experience.

If you want to get started on the cheap then have a look for a sport called man trailing. It's a good start to tracking and learning stuff about it. Once you get the basics you can lay tracks out yourself, I do it in the horses turn out field.

Its for my partner, the mentoring scheme is only for those already with a open FAC and DSC1 unfortunately, though fully understandable

Contact Kathryn here and she'll point you in the right direction. I know she's been working with deer tracking services lately on some stuff.

I had a day with deer tracking services, very good tuition and came away with loads of advise and things to continue to work on with my teckel. Not too expensive too.

Don’t bother, complete waste of your time

Total lack of communication and organisation.

Shame as it’s a superb idea, and a much needed service, which by all accounts the tracking side of things seems to work very well.
I’d disagree. Last year UKDTR took on around a dozen new teams to go through their mentoring scheme. Going really well.

Its set up purely for training those who are willing to do the call outs ! I see nothing wrong with that especially when the organisers spend a lot of their time and personal money setting up training days for new guys , attending the shows etc , etc
Why should they do all that to train a guy with a "dog" who is never going to do the call outs spending their own money on fuel, kit and other expenses to help a guy out ?
Have you seen what BASC and other trainers etc charge for doing a DSC1 qual ?

And your point is what, doesn’t change the fact they are terrible at communications,
I agree with everything you say, and already said I think it’s a superb idea, but if they never bother responding to people, how is that a good thing ?

I also fail to see relevance between deer tracking and dsc1 🤷
