Gentlemen, true gentlemen @Ronin & @griff thanks so much for your generosity. It's not often I'm stuck for words but WOW, thank you both.
I would love to take you up on your offer, but just before you do anything or waste any time, another SD Forum member has offered to Borescope it for me tomorrow evening.

The shop has sewn doubt in my mind (and my ability). Lets just be sure that's all.

Hope you don't mind and I'll update you all tomorrow evening.

Thank you, every single one of you

Ooop's nearly missed @pendle . Thank you soo much sir. I will speak with you soon.

Geoff.

No Problem

Just make contact if you want to proceed / let’s say a reasonable time window of a couple of months from now for the offer as my work schedule may change and you may also decide to keep the weapon “as is” - subject to further borescope examination

Though I am obviously conscious that bore scoping has already been conducted at the vendor I do some work for and they contacted me on that day for advice about this.

👍🏻

Well I’m a cynic and generally day to day somebody enforces the ethos that people are just cnuts!

But today I’ve just read and feel there maybe a wee glimmer of hope for us as a species yet ….

Well done to the gents and their offers …. You have hopefully inspired a few ! 🙏👍👍

If o ever was to meet either of said persons I’d buy you a beer … but instead I’ll raise a glass to you the nicht and say well done !

Paul

OK gents, the results are in after the borescope this evening.

There is wear in the barrel but not as bad as expected given the accuracy issues.
However, there looks as though there may be a slight bulge in the barrel too. So, this evening's (3rd independent persons opinion) inspection concludes a rebarrel is probably the only course of action going forward.

So @Ronin and @griff
I'd very much like to take you up on your ever so kind and considerate offer.

How do we proceed from here?.

Thanks again, to every single one of you who has taken the time to add their input, both good, bad, and indifferent.

It's posts and comments like on this thread that will keep this forum thriving.

Now, lastly, do I name the shop?

Thanka again one and all.

Given the time elapsing and the possible bulge. I would say you cannot definitively state that the rifle was delivered in this state.

Was the rifle shot without patching it out upon delivery. Could there have been cleaning product residue left in the barrel at any point.

Would you take a car back 14 months after it was purchased and say the tyres are worn out or the engine inst producting the claimed MPG figures?

A barrel is wearable part. All be it, you can’t see the degradation without a bore scope.

If a new rifle was returned after 14 months would you expect a refund?

What I am saying is, if you buy a rifle from anywhere secondhand it is imperative to have a full check before putting cash on the table or at least make any representations in a timely manner.

I don’t want to cause offence to the OP but how can we realistically take one side over the other in this situation.

I am being objective. I believe this to be the sensible option in this situation. The OP is not at a loss thanks to the generosity of @Ronin and @griff and I believe lessons can be learned all round here.

I did with film to those that asked  your way to new to have been around when it was all the rage to suck the toe's and defend his work !!
End .

Sorry did't say who the other good guy was Mike Norris, He opened his workshop at stupid O'clock one morning after I drove for 5 hrs and re built the sloppy fitting and bad plumbing .
Top draw and my thanks go out to him much like the OP will have done to his Gunsmith.

This thread fair warms the cockles :D Would love to hear Ronin's opinion on the state of this shot-out, bulging barrel once he's got his hands on the rifle and would also love to see the test target once it's been re-barrelled. I suspect the latter will be something that gives you a very warm feeling (and absolutely zero excuses for missing anything ever again!).

That doesnt seem like the film I've seen 🤔 but anyway I guess that's a different topic for another time and thread. Needless to say this will be a good laugh later

I'm glad you've got it sorted via the forum & as for name dropping 100% let them have it! I imagine it's a gun room possibly somewhere in Cheshire...

I think we had all worked this out pretty quickly, amazing though the amount of people in this thread who had worked this out. Pretty telling really.
