On page 3 of your FAC will be a list of firearms you are authorised to purchase.

When you purchase one of those firearms the person selling it has to write the details into Table 1 on page 5.

Provided they have done this then you are all good & you can ignore what the self proclaimed experts at the club have said - I’d also probably ignore any other advice they give you related to shooting, reloading, etc.!

If they haven’t done this then go back to them & get them to do it asap.

Although, having said all that, personally I’d write a short & succinct letter to the club secretary & chairman telling them how unwelcome you were made to feel & why, then point out that you are 100% legal & will take your membership somewhere more professional where you’re welcome.

Your second half is exactly what I fear, they made a big point of a 1 year probation thing which is fine but as you say, if I correct them and they ain’t happy to be corrected or whatever or if something else happens and I know it’s not right n I voice it I bet it could lead to problems

I think that's probably a wise move. It sounds as though they're more interested in dictating what you can and cannot do rather than welcome a new member. In my personal experience, clubs of all manner tend to attract those with a predilection to be officious, cliquey, and petty.

As for your FAC? You have every right to possess as others have saud

Yup had it all clarified, think some people in this shooting world as exists in every other orifice of life love a bit of power projecting which in all truth the way they said it was as if I was a thicky thicky dumb dumb and knew nothing an then aye the panicking ya you’ve got illegally held firearms can send a shiver down your spine.

I’m a young guy mid 20’s n rocked up to a shoot ran by near 70 year olds so it’s that typical think they know it all attitude but I wouldn’t be surprised if they invited me along to see it and had second thoughts of letting someone in young like me n this way the way to kick it down the road . But in the same respect if they are unsure I can see/understand they wouldn’t want someone to join if they think they’re not legal or whatever n puts there shoot at risk but I really don’t think that’s what it is, I reckon in hindsight most of the members I know of are older n young blood might not suit em

Either way I’m just knocking it on the head is what it is, frankly I’ve zero interest in proving myself to others as-well, had to fight like sh*t to get my licenses anyways and I’m damn sure not risking them so believe me when I say when i bought
My guns I asked the RFD’s twenty thousand times over what I needed to do to be legal etc afterwards lol. Will try find another syndicate, tbh just wanted a small shoot with good craic and a freedom to go help out for something to do that peaks my interest I.e gamebird keeping as a almost hobby so sure I’ll find that someplace else plus I’m not too fsr away from actually moving districts so maybe it’s just a sign

We have a few at one of the clubs I'm in, a Bisley mentality that is only interested in .22 bench rest

Shoot it if I throw him a percentage his way will he
Let me start a small diy shoot on the ground and il try get some guys together. Some chilled folks with an attitude to welcome new comers and a good craic day out in the season would be good
Might just be able to pull it off if can get the permission, know a few who would welcome it for sure

Lol, aye I think the idea would be low numbers. Need to see if I can do it first so need to ask my farmer friend but if it was a yeh then think it would require some serious thought on running it

I think this has been well covered. But with anything legal and / or shooting related always go to first principles of the law as it is written in law or regulations as they currently stand, and as they stand on official documents.

As for expert opinion - you really have to ask yourself who is the expert, and the basis on which he is forming his / her opinion.

The law is made by men and women, and written in language that can be interpreted. And with any interpretation there is always a level of bias based on the individual’s own experience and outlook. We all also have a very different recall of facts and evidence provided. That is perfectly normal. (I was told this by a Sheriff, when I was a member of a Jury, as part of his summing prior to our deliberations.

As for joining a club, business or other relationship, the courting process, the legally defined union and the honeymoon period are all critical to the long term. How people behave during this process is a very good, and often the only, indication of how the relationship will develop. If neither party are comfortable it’s best to be open, and if that doesn’t change, then walk away.

But also don’t forget that many of us who are few decades old grew up when taking the **** was a sign of affection and belonging. This is very much a British / Colonial / Australian thing that foreigners and younger generations don’t understand. Brits are very polite to people whom they don’t know or don’t like. If they are taking the **** they are getting fond of you.

Depending where you are in Scotland I am looking to try something similar!
