After poking corn cob media out of a primer pocket for the very last time ...


I'm going to wet tumble my brass ...

Trying to pick up a fleabay Chinese jewellery rotary drum..


Brass to be cleaned is 22-250 and 6.5 284 lapua

Is there a one size fits all stainless pin size or ....?

Lots of stainless pins for tumbling are 0.047” (1.2mm) diameter by 0.255” (6.47mm) length. This means they don't get stuck in flash holes or primer pockets. Frankford Arsenal do 1mm x 7mm pins.

I have heard of people getting the 6.5mm pins stuck in the 6.5mm brass necks. Might be worth getting the Frankford Arsenal ones if you're using 6.5mm brass, they are 7mm so can't get stuck in the case mouth.

A salad spinner is a good way to help get the pins out of the cases too. I got one off Amazon like this

1.5 or 3mm ball bearings, got mine off Jewellers Tools on Ebay

I have 2 Frankford Arsenal 7L tumblers, one runs the usual steel pins the other 2kg of 1.5mm ball bearings for smaller case mouths (223etc.) both clean very well, the ball bearings are a bit faster.

Instead of corn cob, you will be removing pins

Get magnetic pins then perhaps you can persuade them out by putting each piece of brass face down on a neodymium magnet.

This is why I suggested the salad spinner. Does a great job of getting the pins out. The guntap pins are magnetic stainless so you could use a magnet but I've never needed to.

Yes once they are dry I suppose centrifugal force should get them out if they are facing the right way. I'd still tap each one face down to make sure there wasn't something still in there.

Meh, I just use Meguir's car wash with synthetic polymer wax, and some lemishine. Seems to work well.

Primer pockets too? How long do you tumble for with no media? I'm betting the msds has some mild acid in it - which is why I'm curious.

Lemishine has the acid. And I usually tumble for 30-40 mins. And yes, the pockets get reasonably clean (not as spotless as with pins, but more than clean enough to reload).

Yes lemshine is citric acid. I was curious about the brass juice msds which apparently gives a spotless clean with no pins - even the primer pocket.
