Boot care and why I can't be arsed...

I clean mine often, almost each outing if they get muddy and ensure they're given a coating of Ledergris, which I've found to be the very best leather care product I've used. Keeps leather supple and waterproof, even my "non" waterproof Altberg defenders which have yet to let a single drop of water through despite fording many streams in them. It's also meant my boots have lasted donkey's years and I will probably only need one more pair of Tethras to see me out.

I tend to leave them rattling around in the back of the truck until i wear them and they leak. Then i clean them oil them and promise i will look after them until 3-4 months have passed and I’m back to square one.

Don't start.

I know.

I am a terrible human being (especially) when it comes to caring for my Stalking boots.

What's your boot regime?

They look like mine after I’ve cleaned them!

I just clean mine in spring with tap water to clean off the mud, let them air dry and then put on a heavy coat of Cherry Blossom Oxblood colour polish and let it sink in. Good to go again.

Are your Diemme boots from Brandecosse, same as mine?

These are mine.

I get a pleasure from cleaning by boots, perhaps not to Finnbear's standard of gloss finish, but close.

Mine get all the mud rinsed off when I get in then left to dry.
I use a wax made up by a saddler, every couple of outings.
My boots last me many years. The last pair have just been binned after the whole sole unit departed from the boot after 10 years. Shame as the leather was perfect.

I have a mate who abuses his boots and buys a new pair every year

Mines get tucked away until the next time I'm out, If I shoot a deer and have to travel to my friends house to break down the primals I take my boots along with me.

I forgot my gators after shooting a big old mature stag, Friends cut the head off expecting me to carry it no issue and was pleasantly surprised to see me struggling (Little lady issues...) few moments later both boots stuck to knee hight In the mud and a red deer almost dragged over top of me my boots were a bit of a state after that.

My Altbergs get brushed when dry and then a serious coating with leder gris wax oil or just the wax. Still in good condition ,but the soles are reaching the renewal point. My fabric/suede boots get brushed and then sprayed with whatever spray on stuff I have under the sink. Can't beat a pair of well polished boots or shoes, but thankfully don't need to do it as often these days!

I paid £35 for a re sole of my boots Vibram, a little harder than the original or may be that after 8 years they were just different. Money well spentimage.webp

Rinse/wash the mud off mine with the garden hose and leave them to dry. Once a year, I give them a good polishing with standard polish (Kiwi) then give them a coat of Mink Oil which you can get off Ebay. A tin should last you years and keeps them waterproof and supple.

Random question, since boot cleaning thread.

Just accidentally ordered 3L of Renaissance Wax rather 200ml.

Theoretically, could you use RW to wax leather Lowa / Hanwag boots ?

Thinking, if it is ok for leather knife handles, various metals and synthetic stocks... Then it could be ok for boots

I'd crack on. Most problems seem to be caused by no application of product

Altbergs are cleaned/rinsed under the tap, then left to slowly dry in the utility room. Ledergris after every half dozen or so washes.

My everyday Altberg desert boots get a brush every now and again and a spray of the Altberg waterproofing stuff they sell for their suede boots.

I wear Meindle chainsaw boots , they are the only ones I find fit me. Save’s me from having to change footwear every time I need to use a chainsaw or need toecap protection. I’m on about my fourth pair now, normally last me about a year but don’t do anything to maintain them as I wear the soles and foam rubber midsole out long before the leather even looks worn.
Kindest regards, Olaf

Knock off the mud wash them off let them dry then WD40 the life out of them mine have never let in water or cracked and there very spuppul

my boot care regimen looks like yours!
occasionally clean and re dubbin, wear till knackered then replace.just got 2 pairs of zamblan boots unused fro the charity shop for a tenner 👍.
my pair of dubarry boots were looked after and the soles fell off after a year so what's the point!View attachment 296653
X2 on the Dubarry’s, a waste of money even when I only paid trade for, split across the front and I couldn’t even guess where they are now!
I have a low pair of Brashers for good weather and too many pairs of high leg boots (mainly Le Chameaux) for crappy conditions
