I have been lucky to win a place in the ballot and have a place on the BASC Isle of Arran Stalking Scheme. Now this is the first time out for me, winning this and I am just seeking advice on tips, kit to take accommodation etc.

Good waterproof gear is advised, as are decent boots.
Find out what beat you are on before booking accommodation, so your not driving too far.
Book ferry as soon as possible.
Probably worth heading over on the Saturday to allow time to get to know the layout of the island.
(Ferries can be cancelled if weather is bad, so worth being over early)
Make sure your rifle is spot on with copper ammo at 100m (3 inch group required at the range on the Monday)

if you are driving over get the ferry booked now, its an absolute nightmare. I had to go over for work recently and had to books six weeks in advance to get a space

I have got the hinds in November. The ferry booking is not available at this time. There was space for the first week according to my letter, so Dave it may be worth a call to see if there are spaces.

Yeh, when you drive to your beat….leave your keys in the car so you don’t lose ‘em.
Ken.;)
Agreed, but depends what I’ve got left hanging around in the truck, whether or not I leave the keys in it somewhere. Last time (and only time) I lost them was out food shopping and it was ball ache enough on the mainland to get sorted.

I always hide my keys within 50 yards of the car, making a mark in my minds eye, never had bother picking them up on returning.

Or a Blaser.

Takes seconds to switch to a C50 or Senopex.

The Shortbread Senate will have rammed through their amendments by then to make it all legit...
21st October will be the effective date I believe, but you will still need a night licence.

Whack a few stags while you are at it
