Isle of Arran BASC

I was lucky enough to get drawn for the BASC stalking scheme on the isle of Arran this year. I am looking forward to it, but I could do with some helpful advice (any advice). It will be my first time on the hill. What's the accommodation situation ? Are rifle backpacks a good idea (vorn)? Etc..

Unless you have a “Gentleman’s Gentleman” to tote your rifle…a Vorn is a game changer.

Get the larger version.

Then you can hold your head up high in polite society…

Enjoy your trip.

Forgive me for stating the obvious.

A stout stick.

Whatever suits you (there are a myriad of options) but take a stout stick.

The other obvious stuff include:-

Comms.
Maps.
Food & water.
First Aid Kit.
Waterproofs.
Suncream (I know right!)
Midge stuff (repellant not attractant).

Someone else will be along directly with more top tips...

PS
Speaking of tip tips.

Take cash - coins weigh too much so notes are better...

Can't count the amount of deer I've had people miss out on because they were faffing about with thier Vorn, amongst the other toys. If you get one, at the very least practice with it...a lot!

(stands by for the Vorn afficionados telling me they can draw it faster than Clint Eastwood can pull his revolver out! 😂)
