Worth noting that if you do happen do do this on a modern credit or debit card in use that the contactless wont work.

I'm forever pulling ticks off my dogs, and i recently found a cheap lasso tick remover on amazon. Works brilliantly very handy to keep in the truck
Sounds good.

Do you have a link to this tick remover, or further details ?

(Had a look on Amazon, but not sure which on you are referring to)

My better half has been a dog groomer since we first met,(55yrs) she removes ticks with tweezers after' she has soaked' them in surgical spirit on cotton wool. ( you have to wait momentarily for the tic' to cough!) then wipe over the area' after the blighter has been removed with the spirit.

BC.

I'd always understood that you shouldn't put surgical spirit or anything else on the tick before removal as when it "coughs", as you describe it, the tick is vomiting it's stomach contents into the blood stream of whatever it is attached to increasing the chances of infections. Normal tweezers can squeeze the tick and make it vomit. Surgical spirt or disinfectant after removal might do some good. My mother used to use a lit cigarette to the end of a tick to encourage it to let go but that is also not recommended.

I'm not aware of any issues she may' have had. She always squashes them after, and care is taken when pulling them off,and the head is still' attached, not left in the wound.

Putting anything over the tick is unnecessary and it's generally frowned upon for the reasons Sellars says above.

If you use the right type of tweezers or a tick removal tool that costs pence there really is no need to cover them in anything before you remove them.

HI

My two spaniels get ticks all the time and got fed up trying to find and remove them all., So I use a Seresto collar which stops ticks attaching and last for the whole season., They retail at about £35 - so quite a good deal.
